Hi all,

Some of my Mp3s are stored in archive files such as rar or zips, and I would like to know if there is an mp3 player (software) capable of playing my mp3s from inside the archives.

Thanks

Yes, foobar2000 can do the thing (with .rar and .zip archive files).

But, I don't know how you got your MP3s stored in archive files. Anyway, I don't believe that makes you save much space on your HDD. AFAIK, CDDA traks are not ripped directely to archive files...

Or, maybe you got those files from P2P, didn't you?

Winamp can also play tracks inside archives.

Bot not inside ACE files (foobar doesn't support ACE files either). Blame ACE developers.

Never heard of WinRAR or WinZip?
Should be no problem to create a packed file with MP3`s inside! biggrin.gif

I just meant that I don't see any interest about archiving MP3's since the space saved from HDD is really tiny (taht could only be interesting for P2P, when a whole album is packed in a single file, making it more convenient to down/upload than several smaller files).

I'm not from another planet and off course I've heard about rar, zip, ace, 7z and other stuffs like that...

The answer has already been given, but I have always wondered why people need this?
I can't see the use, but there might be a good reason for it since it's one of the "official" components. Someone care to explain the advantage?

Edit: Is there any besides the one given by nyarlathotep? If that's the only one, why not extract it when your done downloading?

Some formats other than lossy audio compression (eg. all sorts of module formats, SPC, etc) benefit from additional zip/rar compression, that's why foo_unpack has been made.
For an example, RAR in solid mode can reduce size of an SPC game soundtrack to 5% of original size, because of heavy redundancy between files.

Archive reader component isn't meant for MP3s or other such formats, its primary use is with modules or other highly compressible formats.
