Thanx in advance.

Does anybody have a collection of obsolete lossy codecs, I wonder? wink.gif

I like to know what compression ratio they claim & which do they achive?
tigre
All packers like ZIP, RAR, 7zip, ACE ... are lossless, at least RAR 3.x has a special audio mode performing quite well. On some test signals like high frequency sine waves, rectangular or needle impulse signals (some) packers outperform lossless audio compressors by far.

True, but I guess he's more interested in audio-specific lossless encoders

smile.gif I'm understand your irony but ... I didn't wanted to say something like that:
"I'm Da Masta of Lossless Compression ! Look at My collection !" No, no and no !
I just have idea about creating website dedicated to lossless compressors and asked your help.
Yeah I know most of these compressors are obsolete but mention about them is just respect ... So if you gonna joke about - good, if you gonna help - great, but anyway thanx for responce.

PS: Rjamorim, could you give me links (if presented) for ADA, MUSICompress, DAXwav, MLP. Thanx.

They are really obsolete & obscure, there are no links. I don't even remember where I got them.

And MLP is a special case. It's commercial (around 2500 bucks an encoder), and I can't share it even if I wanted (to keep the warez world healthy) because the damn pest watermarks the stream it creates with the name of the guy that bought it, so I had to swear to the guy that sent me that I wouldn't share even the streams generated by it. >_<

http://www.meridian-audio.com/p_mlp_in.htm

Anyway, if you are interested in Daxwav, Musicompress and ADA, PM me your e-mail address and I can send them to you. The three files zipped (it's only one executable for each) take less than 130Kb. :B

Interestingly - just noticed it - ADA has a lossy mode. It's probably just quantization, like WavPack and RKau, but I couldn't be arsed to check it. The version I have (first and last, probably) is dated 1999.

BTW: I wasn't being ironic, I was just showing off that I have more than you. biggrin.gif
rjamorim
HAHA! I was mistaken. ADA and MUSIcompress are still alive

If you are still interested in Daxwav anyway, PM me. The DAX page is also up (oh, the miracles of internet), but I couldn't manage to find a link to the windows version.

I was not ironic either. I just thought about the number of lossless codecs available... The interesting question was: will someone dare to compress his/her music with a random lossy codec, just downloaded from internet? wink.gif

Wow! Is it any good? why so much?
floyd
yeah, how does mlp compare to the best free lossless coders (ape flac la ofr etc) for 16-bit 44khz stuff?

It's the format used in DVD-A.

Read the links I posted, there you'll find more info.

MLP compares well with other codecs, but I believe it's more targeted at multichannel and high resolutions.

I've never tried this one, but Marian say that it's lossless: http://www.marian.de/english/downloads.htm#APAC

Woof ! Thank you very much, people ... rolleyes.gif
Can somebody give me 2500$ to buy MLP tongue.gif
Satya
can anyone tell me which "Lossless Audio codec" give more compression? and how much with respect to original streams??

Cheers,

It wasn't too bad either. Encode, decode and playback from the main window and it may even outperform LPAC and come close to SHN.

I'd prefer a DOS port tho'.

And you can pack the packed file and still get very high compression ratio !

is it right to say that faac is based on the old mbsoft code?

It is. But so much has been changed and replaced, I guess few code comes from that obscure age ph34r.gif

Actually, the older faac (mostly a compile of the MPEG reference sources witn a GUI, according to Menno) was called MBaacenc. (In case you didn't figure it out, MB = Menno Bakker)

If anyone is interested in any of the rarities I mentioned, feel free to PM or mail me (you can find my e-mail anywhere, RareWares can be a good start)
