I could have sworn I saw this question the other day, but did not have time to read it. I did a search but I will be damned if I can find it. So sorry if this is a repeat.

I am very new to EAC and lame, I use to use Easy CD-DA Extractor but then started reading the forums here. Anyway on with the question.

I followed the Chris Myden's guide http://www.chrismyden.com/nuke/modules.php...B&file=painless and then went into EAC's compression options to see what it looked like--trying to learn what the cfg file did. Here are the three that I have questions about.
Parameter Passing Scheme -> Lame MP3 Encoder
Additional command line options -> --alt-preset standard
Bit Rate -> 128

The 128 concerned me but I ripped the CD anyway. After it was done I took a look at the log file and saw:
Used output format : C:\Program Files\EAC v0.95 prebeta 3\lame.exe (LAME MP3 Encoder)
128 kBit/s
Additional command line options : --alt-preset standard

When I played the song back on winamp it was jumping around 220 kBit/s.

My questions are:
Do I need to worry about the 128 or is it ignored if --alt-preset standard is there?
Does EAC use any other options to lame that will hurt the --alt-preset standard settings?

Thanks in advance!

Hello, welcome to HA. You really should spend sometime with the FAQ, as it will help you answer many questions, including the one you're asking now

But anyway, short answer: NO!
EAC does nothing to -alt preset standard, that will affect quality. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise, as this has already been settled on the link above. Just read it and see for yourself.
The selectable bitrate in that particular drop-down in the settings only works for one thing: it is the bitrate that EAC will CALCULATE the stimated size the compressed file will produce. Have you noticed a column on the EAC main screen that reads "compressed size"? Well, if you select 128k it will display the size the files would be if compressed at that bitrate. This works so you can have an idea of the space your songs will take from your hard drive. As -alt preset standard is closer to 192k, that's the one I selected so it will give me a better idea.

This is kinda hard for me to explain, and I am not so sure I made myself clear, but read the link I gave you and you will understand better.

Do not worry!

(My 222 post! Neat!)

Thank you AtaqueEG! That was the post I had mentioned that I could not find again. Thanks for your help.
