I would like to know if there are any suggestions to the encoding settings to use for obtaining the highest possible quality with mp3PRO. Should one use CBR@96Kbps or a VBR setting offers higher quality?

Which encoder is recommended? Ok, all audio applications use a Fraunhofer/Coding Technologies encoder for mp3PRO since there is no alternative but which one is more recent and/or has highest quality?

I've noticed that a VBR mp3PRO encoding sometimes produces bitrates higher than 96Kbps. Are these frames encoded with SBR or with the regular mp3 algorithm? Is there any way to find out this information using some tool?

And while on the subject, is MP3Gain going to work properly on mp3PRO files?

MP3Gain does not work with MP3Pro.

Hi,
I only know part of the answers.

SBR.

No, because it does not scale the SBR part of the file. The result will be inconsistent.

MP3Gain does not work with MP3Pro.

So, I guess the only way to increase the volume is to use a tool like WaveGain on the original WAV file before the encoding.
