Uhm...
seems to hang on 1071th file, which is a 128kbps xing mp3
fb2k is opening this file alone correctly
Perhaps it's some kind of uninitialized variable issue in mp3 header parsing then, that would explain why it sometimes opens it but sometimes doesn't, I'll look into it, thanks.

chkdsk revealed no problem on the volume
i noticed that this file has replaygain.
removed it with 667
now beta27 works
may a wrong/damaged replaygain info caused this?
sorry

Unlikely.
Sounds more like the problem is somehow affected by length of tags at the end of file.
I have some clues, I'll look for possible cause of such behavior. If it froze (even if the file was somehow corrupted), it IS a bug.

if you shut down windows without closing foobar first (so that windows has to close it) foobar hangs. it plays a part of the song currently playing then the standard windows error comes up ("program is frozen"), then foobar again plays a part of the song, freezes, plays again for a part of a second..... til the programm is closed manually.

Not here. Check your components, one of them might be blocking proper shutdown.

hm i tested it again and now it worked properly. maybe there were some other reason why it didn't work before. (i'm not using any 3rd party components at the moment). sorry that you had to restart your windows because of me. text time i'll check it twice.
No problem with rebooting, my laptop wasn't doing anything else anyway.
Perhaps you were using KS output, that thing may show weird behaviors when shutting down (It has a lot of driver-specific issues related to stopping playback in an abnormal way).

there's a minor problem that i reported before, got fixed then and is back now. minimize foobar to the systray, disable the "bring to the front when adding files from commandline" feature and open a file in the explorer. the tag reader comes to the front while the foobar windows stays minimized (which it should).

edit: i'll check back the other thing with different settings and let you know if the problem occurs again.

here's a feature request thats also related to the window minimizing stuff: i think it would be nice if there were an option that lets start foobar in minimized mode right from the start. i mean not even that it doesn't come to the front when adding new files from commandline (when foobar is already started) but also if you add files from commandline and foobar isn't started.
if you start foobar by clicking on foobar.exe or any shortcut of it i think it should still come to the front but when start it by clicking on a file that is associated with foobar.exe it should stay minimized (everything by option of course, not as standard)
It is intentional that KS doesn´t work in 0.7 beta 27?

CPU usage has increased from max 5 to 10% to 80% and more since beta28
Using XP SP1 and all latest security patches on a 500Mhz CPU.
Same figures for Kernel streaming and direct sound.
Did a clean re-install but CPU usage remains the same
ps. I also installed some security patches from MS yesterday - hope that is not the cause of the high CPU usage...

not really a bug. When playing in Random mode, the Bottons under > Playback > Next/Prev and Hotkey should select the next Track randomly too.
I can´t get Kernel Streaming works in beta28
When I install 0.667:
- I uncheck dither in playback
- I remove Volume atenuator DSP
- I select Kernel Streaming as output.
Kernel Streaming works fine.
The same config doesn´t work in beta28
What´s wrong????????????
Anyone who has DTS-WAV or AC3-WAV working with 0.667 can confirm the bug in 0.7?

I just tried out 0.7beta28. It's the first time I have tried 0.7, and don't all laugh but I reckon it sounds a bit better than 0.667. Better bass and a touch more attack and clarity in the treble with all .mp3 & .mpc files I've listened to.
I'm using Kernel streaming and SSRC resampling (really helps the sound of my SBLive by avoiding its crappy 48000 hardware resampling!). I've been listening via SPDIF into my Meridian DAC / Electrocompaniet pre-amp / PS Audio amp / B&W CDM-9NT speakers and the sound's GREAT.
Thanks Peter. Keep up the good work!

That would be pure placebo. I bet if you test, fb0.7 will give near bit-identical results to 0.667 in MP3 and MPC decoding, except when it comes to corrupt files or gapless MP3 playback.

I thought the same thing.
As I still have .667 installed (until .7 final comes out) I loaded the same files on both and then asked my sister to randomly play the same songs alternatively, without telling me which one was playing.
The settings for both Foobars were the same.
No difference.
But I love 0.7 so far. I love gapless MP3 (I hope this time is here to stay).

Hi everyone
I've got some error - i can't play some files with foobar. I think that file's header is broken but i can play this file with winamp. When i put this file in Tag&Rename it shows that bitrate is 0 and if i add this file to foobar playlist (0.667 and 0.7b28) it shows that this is a Stream and when i click to play console shows message "ERROR (CORE) : error opening file for playback : ...".
One of this files can be found

Please let me know when can i delete this file from ftp. thx
[/EDIT]
How about playing mo3 files? (modules with mp3/ogg audio) I must register extension manually

. Anyway foobar plays mo3s fine.

Downloaded, you can take it down. That file has invalid/broken ID3v2 tag, 1MB in size. Only player I had that managed to play it was Winamp2 but it considers all invalid data as mp3 so this isn't a suprise.
Hi all,
I reviewed 0.7 beta28, and I discover that unchecking "Use peak info to scale ..." in "Playback"->"Replay Gain", Kernel Streaming works.
So, it seems that Replay Gain DSP is ALWAYS activated...
Strange that it doesn't work with this option... It works for me...
Replaygain only adds a gain and it shouldn't affect the playback.
But Replaygain has always been active... check the audio processing pipeline in the playback config and you'll see reaplygain is always activated before any other DSP...

use tag or killID3 or a hex editor to kill the tag.

You can remove these id3v2 tags at least with Tag, that's what I used to make it playable. The removal was very slow for some reason though.

Since no one mentionned it in this thread, multimedia keys on logitech (maybe others, too) keyboard doesnt work anymore "outside" of the program (when foobar2000 doesnt have the focus). Other users reported that it worked in the v0.667 days, but stopped working in the 0.7 versions.
Heres my configuration on my side:
WindowsXP with every patches (without SP1)
AthlonXP 2000+ @ Asus A7v8X
Soundblaster Audigy II Platinium
Logitech Internet Navigator™ Keyboard
What else can I say? Oh yeah v0.7 beta 28. Of course it didnt work

Hi, small but annoying bug. In the previous version of foobar, when you listened to a shoutcast stream, you would not see the server name in the list view or icon ttt, just the song name - which was not ideal but ok.
Now with latest version, you see the server name is in song title var and port is in song extension (IIRC), so in list view and icon ttt you now see the server name : port but NOT the artist and song name.
this kinda sucks as when you are listening to a stream you want to be able to tell which song is playing. So it should show servername AND artist name AND song name. This is how winamp shows it.
Even better would be just to show server name in list view and artist and song name in icon ttt.
thanks.
This may have been reported in a much earlier version, but...
For this formatting string in Album List:
CODE
$puts(VA,$strcmp(%release type%,Compilation)$strcmp(%release type%,Soundtrack))
$if($get(VA),%album% - %date%,%artist% - %date% - %album%)
|[%disc%.]%tracknumber% - $if($get(VA),%artist% - ,)%title%
(line-broken for readability)
The first $if always returns the first option, the second $if always returns the second option, regardless of how the %release type% tag is set. WTF?

HTTP streaming was reimplemented with jnetlib as foo_read_http, and I have yet to work Shoutcast title streaming into it.

I have a problem with DS output and foo_record. When I set the output device to "Creative ES1370 Direct Sound Driver" instead of "Primary Sound Driver" (or whatever it's called in English), and start playback of a record:// location, I constantly get error message about foo_output_std not being able to create a DirectSound object. These messages only stop, when I stop playback. The real problem is that each of the unsuccessful attempts to create a DS object allocates some memory that is *not freed*, not even when closing fb. In case I fail to stop playback in time (i.e. before physical memory is exhausted), the system starts to swap constantly, thus slowing down almost to a halt. This happened with b27, I'll try b28 later.

First off, here is my computer info.
Fb2k 0.7 beta 28
Windows 98SE
SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio
Here's the problem. Whenever I open foobar, it opens fine. When I hit play, it doesn't play. The status bar will now read “Opening....”, and will remain like that for the next minute or so, before playing the actual track. In some cases, it even freezes, and requires a whole system restart. It also causes my volume control to stop working (multimedia keys, Windows Volume Control). I have not tried the fb2k volume control.
This seems to happen in both 0.7 and 0.66.
What can be the problem? Is there a solution?
