Hello again...
I'm back with the same problem though an uninstall/reinstall of foobar2000 makes it go away.
I believe the mod component doesn't like me letting the songs loop too much. It worked fine for few day and now after one hour of looping the same mod file (maybe it's not sane?) I get the same problem as
earlier.
The workaround is to not let the song loop but sometimes I really get carried out and don't pay attention to the musix

I have a problem with opening 400MB RAR file with .ape and .cue files. Foobar is trying to open every song from cue but can't and is using 500MB of VM. But there is no indication about what's going on. At the end finally is some message about errors. It takes ages HDD is almost burning. It could be usefull to set it at lowest priority to opening and show some progres bar.

The Title Formating for the System Tray icon has a bug. If the system tray is set to display the title of a song in any way, and their is an '&' symbol in the title, it will be displayed three times in a row, rather then once. Happens in beta 38 & 39. Don't know about other beta's.
Not here .
Are you running windows9x version of foobar2000 ?
[edit] running win9x version of fb2k makes no difference (under winxp that is), I believe this is a problem with your OS.
Sorry I took so long to reply, am running WinXP SP1 with all updates.
I'm also using Aston Shell which may be causing the problem, I shall endeavour to find out. Thanks.

If you keep cue/ape inside rar, you get what you are asking for; there is no efficient way to handle them (rar is unseekable so most of formats will need the file entirely decompressed into memory before accessing it).
There's no single valid reason to additionally compress ape anyway, there's hardly any file size gain from it.

A friendly reminder to everyone, stop posting feature requests / bug reports about components that aren't included with standard setup / "omg this build uses more cpu than that build" reports. If you really have to, start your own damn thread. You will have better chance of not being deleted that way, not to mention getting replies not being interrupted by / not interrupting 0.7 bug reports.
Reposting this since some people apparently don't get the purpose of this thread.
This isn't your private "I don't feel like starting my own thread so I'll dump it here" place.

Just when you think you're using a bug free program, a few pop up on you. Heres some I found in .7beta40
* Playlist > Add Files...
E:\Archive\Ripped
CTRL-A (select all) approx 3.88 GB of music.
OK
... No files get added... nothing happens.
* Song Playing
Files added (Drag and Drop from desktop)
Doubleclick on newly added file.
Last playing song keeps string format (now playing format)
* Wake up in the morning
Foobar2000 refuses to make my coffee.
Kick computer
Still nothing.

(1) Probably a windows OS limitation, multi-selection "open file" dialog uses a fixed-size buffer to store results, which may overflow in such situations.
(2) Can't reproduce. Do you mean status bar / window title / etc still shows old song ? Can you reproduce it without any third-party components installed ?

Blame the (idiotic) way process shutdown is done when exiting windows. I'll look for some kind of workaround again (something breaks old workaround apparently), but certain settings will never work.

I tried to remove replaygain info from some songs, but

When I click on "remove replaygain info from files", the

That's not informative.
How long did you wait before you decided that "program stopped responding" ?
It's obvious that retagging big amount of files (especially if they include formats that store tags at the beginning of file, such as Vorbis) takes a lot of time. If you still believe that it really freezes, you should isolate a file that causes it, because there is no such thing as "performing operation X on a lot of files causes freeze" (and if there was, everyone would be experiencing it).
I got a weird crash without any error reports while burning a cd with foobar's audio cd writer. I opened up foobars preferences and headed to the cd writer's properties to check if I had forgotten to enable "Use ReplayGain", when foobar just quit without giving any kind of error, and didn't even save my modifications to the prefs I had made before I started to burn the cd.
I HAVE some 3rd party plugins installed, but I just can't afford to lose another cd (I'm completely broke right now and don't even have any cd-rw's to test with.) just to test if it happens again with a clean install. Hopefully someone can confirm this with clean install :/
Win2k SP4 and 0.7 beta 41.
Just remembered it also locked up my cdrw drive, I had to reboot to get the corrupted cd back.
<draws flamethrower>
For God's sake, please stop flooding this thread with "bugs" that aren't even related 0.7. Is it really so difficult to start a new thread, or search the forum for similar threads (there have been some) ?
Anyway, point taken... there will be no "public test" thread for next releases, important posts sink in a flood of shit everytime I'm away and can't censor every other post out, while all serious issues are reported through IRC anyway.

I'm not sure, It's only happened a few times. It wasnt the window title/status bar, it was the formatting of the playlist. Say my playlist looks like this
Song a
>>Song b
Song c
The ">>" ment song B is playing. Well, a few times I did something and it went:
Song a
>>Song b
Song c
>>Song x
It didnt properly reset Song b's not playing status. Maybe it was just a fluke?

P.S. You didnt address the foobar<->coffee situation.

OK, it makes sense now, I'm looking into it, thanks.
beta 43 posted, including prototype playlist switcher (can be embedded in UI later, so no whining about having to pop up the window please)
Do you have telephatic skills too, besides of programming, peter?
Yesterday evening, i was thinking about pen&paper RPGs, and if i would host a game, how to use music for different moods. I thought "okay, i could use foobar for this, but how to change between different sets of music? and... how to do it in a soft way, so that the transition between those sets wouldn't be too obvious"
And today, beta 43 is out, with multiple playlist support. When setting "follow cursor" to on, i can switch to playlist B while playlist A is still playing, position the cursor on an appropriate track.... and voila, after the current song of playlist A ends, the selected song on playlist B begins...... and when used together with the crossfade-plugin, i can even crossfade from one playlist to another one - awesome!
THANK YOU!
sorry if this isn't a bug-posting - but you implemented the perfect solution to my problem withouth knowing it

Hi. Tag display for streams doesn't seem to work with beta 43.
I tested with a ShoutCast stream, and a
Vorbis stream.
With shoutcast streams, neither the playlist item nor the statusbar displays the %title%s; %_filename_ext% is shown instead of %title%. In the File Info window, the Metadata pane displays nothing. The technical info pane displays some tidbits. %__bitrate% in playlist works.
With Vorbis streams, the playlist item just displays %_filename_ext%. The statusbar displays the %title% properly. In the File Info window, Both the Metadata pane and the technical pane are empty. %__bitrate% in playlist doesn't work.
Hope this helps. : )

Seems to work exactly as intended (whee, finally proper handling for dynamic track titles). However, you don't get any info specific to the stream itself (just per-song vorbis comment headers), so there's no info to put in database, and playlist can show only filename.
Should work nicer if you load a .pls instead (will show stream title).

Thank you for the explanation.

I now see the reasoning behind the change. I'll try loading a .pls in the future.
BTW, if it isn't on your TODO list already, could you consider handling ShoutCast per-song data the same way you handle Vorbis comment headers, please? Right now, the status bar doesn't display per-song titles when playing ShoutCast.

That is planned (since there's finally a civilized method for doing it instead of wild database update calls from input).

I suggest that you just use waveOut or something (waveOut is default now, even on win2k/xp).

Probably, especially for those who use digital out, no thanks to the buzzing bug in DirectSound as reported.
RC1 working great so far.
One minor issue:
One can't remove the active playlist. I don't know if this is a limitation of windows, but would it be possible to make it possible to remove the currently active playlist, and the next available playlist automatically becomes the active one (plus, check if its the only playlist left)?
It's not a big issue, but i keep finding myself trying to remove the active playlist(because of clicking the tab to take a look at it, and then right-clicking on the tab to remove it).
- Lyx
Well, I think the idea is to prevent people from accidentally removing the active playlist. After all, the active playlist is active because you want to use it.
Bug report: I tired to rename a playlist in beta 45 to "AC/DC" but the "/" is changed to a "_". Running Win2k3, fresh install standard setup.
I believe symbols such as '/' cannot be used in Windows filenames. That's why the thing is renamed.
