Naturally, that feature has to obey mathematical laws; but it seems to me that it frequently selects some particular songs in my playlist.

yeah, this has been discussed at least once or twice, and it's not a very good *ahem* "shuffle" at all. Better off randomizing the playlist and play that playlist in order. I seem to recall someone here did a test, left it running overnight with one of the older versions that automatically replaygained files as it played, and in the morning found that an incredible amount of the songs never got played at all. (As could be seen from the amount of songs without replaygain info)

And I recall someone running a number of tests, and no statistically significant bias was found.

What I've noticed is that it only seems to play "a bunch of songs". I at least jump quite often over songs I don't feel like listening (read: I don't like) and it's actually ME, not foobar that plays the same songs over and over again ohmy.gif
Also, now that I've begun to use Audioscrobbler (~1800 songs played), I've noticed that I've got only two songs with over 10 (both played intentionally, one by me and the other by my sister and me smile.gif), two with 7, four with 6, a few with 5 plays, and the most of the other songs have 2-4 plays. What I'm trying to say here is that all songs seem to get equally good chance of getting played, but as I said before, on my case it's me that has bad shuffle behaviour, not foobar smile.gif
But I must admit, that a couple of times (maybe twice IIRC) I've gotten foobar to play the same song twice in a row (on a ~3400 file playlist) but it isn't that big deal, as I know how to use the next/random button.

at the very least, the word Shuffle should be replaced with the word Random in that menu wink.gif Since it isn't a shuffle.

In 0.7 it is "Random" smile.gif

Case has mentioned to me that it is possible for someone to code a component which provides a "shuffle" mode similar to winamp's. Anyone up for it?

yes, "Shuffle" actually is "Random" it has no memory of what songs have already been played. Just generates a random next song when the current one finishes playing (or when you hit the "random song" button).

I plan to do just that if I ever stop being lazy. Peter was nice enough to add the api functionality after I nagged him about it. The least I can do is use it. smile.gif

Why not just take foo_fusion and modify for that purpose? It's already there why not use it?

I haven't the slightest clue what foo_fusion is.

Any progress curi0us?

Not yet. I've been working on converting my other plugins first.
