It's all up to you. wink.gif

You can mention my test results, if you want.

I already wrote to their head of AAC developement about the topic of developing vbr in their product and here was his reply:

Thanks for your comments and info about QT AAC. Apple listens and values customers' feedback, because Apple wants its products meet your need. However, as an internal engineer, I am discouraged to talk anything about our product with Apple customers. The most effective way to have your feedback be heard is to send it to AppleCare. so pls make sure you send the following feedback to AppleCare, because I believe that it is a very good point (Oops, I should not talk about it...).

Not a GREAT response but at least there was a little interest and I did direct him to your quality test rjamorim although he did not mention it. I am going to follow his advice and post my comments on apple care.

Very interesting. Thanks for pointing him to the test results. And thanks for lobbying at AppleCare. wink.gif

Yeah, it's a shame you have to buy an Apple computer to use it wink.gif

You might not say it is a shame if you try one of the latest models (i.e. dual G5) -- they are actually a reasonable value for the money -- that hasn't happened in a while. I am typing this on my Ti Powerbook, and my friends and coworkers often wish their Intel laptops worked as reliably, smoothly, etc. Besides, shouldn't some other companies besides Intel, Dell, and Microsoft make money? (especially those that innovate) Dell prides itself for not spending on R&D. Microsoft, well... don't get me started... smile.gif

P.S. -- I am not a Mac "fanatic" -- I use Windows, Linux, *BSD machines all the time -- they all have their uses. Can't wait until iTunes comes out for Windows -- now if only we can convince Apple to change the encoding rate on the AAC download content to 192k or higher...

Cheers,

You call $2999 base price a reasonable value?
jweeks
Considering you can't touch the box's dual 2Ghz IBM PPC 970 performance on many media-oriented tasks with a Dell, IBM or HP for $2999, yeah. It is not intended as an entry-level machine -- it is definitely high end, but as such is competitively priced in its market segment (reasonable = decent value for money). This is in marked contrast to the past few years where Mac hardware was overpriced compared to what was available in the WinTel world. Unfortunately, the current lower-end single-proc macs are not as good a value. I am not going to go into detail in this forum, as we are supposed to be discussing audio here anyway... smile.gif

Peace,
