We've upgraded the forum software to IPB 1.2 and have completely changed the Portal software we are using. At the moment, things are still pretty rough around the edges and will be so for a few more days until we are able to add all the little things back into the site. Most notably, the Latest Threads section is a bit lame at the moment -- that will be changed back to the old format shortly. Some of the navigation stuff up top is a little different too, though we're working on fixing it back up.
The new software brings lots of nice changes though and should generally work better than the previous incanation. In particular, the search engine has been completely revamped and is quite slick now. There is both a simple and an advanced mode, and now you can utilized advanced search strings with booleans (well, sort of, you have to use + instead of AND, etc.. click on the usage link on the search page for examples). In general, it should provide much more useful results than the last version.
At any rate, we're working on getting things running smoothly again. In the meantime though, if you notice something not working the way it should (errors, etc), please post them in this thread. If the issue is simply related to formatting (as in an old feature is missing), then don't bother posting it because we already know about it
love the new search! It's great! Now when you refer someone to search the archives they actually can!

there's a small issue on Firebird (Mozilla based browser), check out this

also the centered 'latest threads' is a lot harder to read.

I noticed something.
When you click on a thread from the portal it takes you straight to the latest post.
Most of the time I am new to these posts (as is everybody) and it kinda gets annoying to have to scroll all the way to the top.
Is this intended?
Can it be modified individually (like on "board settings" or something)?
Thanks
The country flags are missing, too, but I think their return is just a matter of time

I'd suppose we are making the latest threads to look and act pretty much as with the old portal, so there shouldnt be a problem then.
Flags will be added too when there's time.

I can't open the HA web site at work since yesterday, when I try to access to the portal the browser (Internet Explorer 6.0 SP 2) do nothing. I can't access to the portal, the trouble is only with HA. Tonight when I try to access the browser ask me for a user and password, very weird, but I can't to have access again.

. At home I don't have any trouble, all is ok.

The new forum software seems to be optimised for the Konqueror browser B) . In the past there where many JavaScript errors and it was horrible slow. But now it works just fine for me (Konqueror 3.1.1).

The "Active Topics" link is showing FB2K threads again. I accidentally started reading about Foobar... whoops!

I'm glad to see that the transition is (apparently) going smoothly. It's going to take me a while to get used to the new search engine, though. It looks like, if you add a "+" in front of each word, then all the words have to be found in a single post, rather than in a single thread. I guess this is how it worked in the last version, too.

I really miss the details in the "latest threads" on the portal-site, e.g. date/time, subtitle, topic starter.
This was a good and quick overview, when you check the site regularly.

Note: One of the posts which is reported as mine in the thread post is actually shown as associated with the real poster instead, once I hit the reply button and scroll down in the post history to look at it.
nice but the portal looks very unclearly to me
Make sure that uploading png files for avatar really works...
I bet it's not easy transforming a forum this large and populated, kudos

I have to say, the new search looks very promising, and a nice touch is the next & previous thread displayed at the BOTTOM of the thread, for when you've finished reading it

If browsing with images off, topic headers are invisible (white text on white background). Could it be changed?
The wrong poster name display issue I mentioned seems to be related to browser I use, being logged in had nothing to do with it. Mozilla based browsers suffer from this bug but with Opera and IE everything seems to be fine. There's also more serious problem with Mozilla: several posts are not displayed at all.

May I ask which portal HA uses?
I saw the new "portal lite" system that IPB have built in (that DAvenger refers to above). Looks interesting. They are developing a full CMS system which should be available late this year. Will be very interesting to see what they can do on the CMS side, because their forum software is great (fast, featurerich, good interface and free).

minor, and perhaps this is still being tweaked after the changeover, but I'm seeing a number of pages show a width scroll bar as if the page were too wide for the current browser window when it really shouldn't have occured. Sometimes, as is the case when I click on the main Hydrogenaudio Forums link so you can see all the main forum categories and sub categories, I get the scroll bar and it actually only moves the page side to side maybe 3 or 4 pixels. Changing from maximized to a non-maximized window rerenders everything in the window OK so that it fits the new size properly, but you still get that bar and it still moves the page by the same small amount.
Display correctly:
Portal
main Search page
main Help page
New Posts displays OK ATM, but there are no new posts showing on it ATM too which may or may not be relevant
Post a new topic
Display incorrectly:
main Forums page
Search results
Active Topics (technically a Search results page perhaps)
Forum Topics
thread/discussion view

perhaps a IE issue, try a Mozilla based browser on 98SE and if that works, you'll have to update IE.

I don't think that it's a Win98 SE problem, since I'm using this OS and I'm in at the moment. I do browse through Opera v7.1 though but in order to be sure I even checked IE and didn't face any problem at all.

Please be more specific.. What exactly do you mean with "can't access"? There really shouldn't be this kind of problems, unless you are trying to access from banned IPs.
grbmusic
Jul 6 2003, 18:06
I don't the mean of "banned IP", how I can know if my IP is banned?.
When I said "I can't have access to HA" I mean that I can't open the page of the website, I write:
http://hydrogenaudio.org in the adress box of the browser and then I press GO button and nothing happens, with Windows Internet Explorer 6.0 I found the next message: web site founded, waiting response..., and stay there for ever. I write this from the server of my job, a machine that runs win XP, here there is a little intranet, there is 1 server under win XP and 6 machines (4 with win98 SE, 1 win2000 and 1 with winXP OS), the three machines with win98 can't open the HA site.
Maybe the trouble is not related to HA, but I want to fix it becouse I can't to use this machine (server) all the time

, and I like read the forum very much.-

The foobar2000 forum also has it's own active topics search function now as well which can be reached via the link at the bottom of the active topics panel in it's forum view or at:
http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....E=fb2kgetactive When we add a custom skin back to the foobar2000 forum, the active topics link up top will also point to this function instead of the normal HA one.
The display limitation of 32768 views per thread was removed, too. Nice.

I noticed all recently posted threads have their titles converted so that every word starts with a capital letter (an IBF feature), like
this or
this one (two examples where it doesn't work out well) - I'm not sure whether this is enabled on purpose. It doesn't seem a good solution to me though, at least not for this forum - "Eac", "Flac", "Mp3", "Mpc", "Mp3gain" etc. don't look too nice if you ask me

, and it's not as though this forum has had lots of issues with all-caps thread titles or messages.
Apart from this, I think the modified layout looks great (I know the difference isn't huge, but I still somehow prefer the new version). Good work as usual.

I suggest asking in their supportforum about it, if the problem cannot be found.

No, it is actually a feature which can be enabled or disabled in the admin control panel. I can't remember the name exactly (it's long ago that I played around with IBF

The capitalization thingy has been turned off now.
