I am using Monkey's 3.97 and playing the .ape files in Winamp. I would like to use ReplayGain so that my .ape files play back at the same level as all my mp3s, which I mp3gained to 89dB album gain. Is this possible?

Please don't tell me to use FLAC and/or Foobar. I know these would be solutions, but for other reasons I want to stick with Monkey's and Winamp.

Thanks.

If you don't get a reply here, try at the Monkey's Audio forums. Matt (the creater of Monkey's audio) is well aware of replay gain.

There is an all-format Winamp ReplayGain plug-in, but I think you're just looking for something for Monkey's, yes?

Cheers,
David.

Thanks David.

I presume an all-format ReplayGain winamp plugin would have the same effect. Am I right?

If so, where would I find this (for Winamp 2.x, not 3)? I have tried searching winamp.com, rarewares and the replaygain website and can't find such a thing.

Where's this all-format replaygain feature indeed? I need that for my Monkey's files too. Is it the metadata based replaygain? Would it corrupt my APE files? I wish I could add the title replaygain metadata to the APL files. Because that's how I access individual tracks.

Ok great! Thanks. Now I assume it will for for APL files as well.

One more thing, what should I do to get the same amount of gain as I do with my MPC files with MPC plugin replaygain headroom set to K-20. I want my APE files to sound at the same volume level with them.

I posted there a few week's back but still no reply, apart from Destroid agreeing with me. Searching back through the Monkey's forum there are some previous posts which indicate that Matt's view is that Replaygain is the domain of the player, not the format. Which means that the Winamp plugin would be the way to go.

Unfortunately there is a drawback with this plugin which is that it only supports Track Replaygain, not Album. Not only that, from my quick scan through the readme I get the impression that for other formats for which Album Replaygain is supported in Winamp, this plugin will still force the output back to Track Replaygain:

QUOTE(dsp_replaygain.txt)
However, if the Vorbis file has a RG_AUDIOPHILE tag and you have enabled Audio-
phile support in in_vorbis, the gain calculated by the plugin will bring the
file down to "radio" Replay Gain.

I have found a way round my main issue with using FLAC. So in the end, despite my initial request to not suggest I use it, I have decided to abandon Monkey's and go with FLAC dry.gif . Monkey's simply doesn't allow me to use Replaygain exactly as I want it.

Thanks everybody for your help.
Tim.
