i was kinda board, so i figured what the heck i'll email kenwood and ask them if they are planning on ever supporting the "less popular" lossy music formats such as mpc and ogg. Mainly mpc tho.
Im 99.9 percent sure on what (if any) relpy they gove me will be....
Maybe im just Wishfully Thinking

I guess the more people that ask about these unsupported formats the better.

[edit: sorry, i just relized that there is no point to this thread.[edit]
I e-mailed PhatNoise a few days ago asking whether they planned to support Ogg Vorbis decoding. They said, "No plans at this time."
Since PhatNoise is doing the firmware and decoder integration for both the Phatbox and the Music Keg, Kenwood will probably refer your e-mail to them. I'm worried they'll say the same for MPC that they said for Ogg, but let's hope otherwise. I'd love more flexibility beyond MP3, WMA, FLAC and WAV.

Ask them if they'll reduce the price by 50%, too
I second that emotion.

Though deals can be found out there...the regular price when I bought a KHD-CX910 (20GB) was somewhere between $600 and $700...paid about $350 for it, new. That was almost a year ago, though, before demand was very high...

Don't they support FLAC? If so, there isn't much reason not to support vorbis, unless their dsp isn't up to the decoding task.
It's all a matter of file size, and how many songs you want to keep on the DMS. On a 20 GB Phatbox/Music Keg DMS cartridge, you can store some 50 albums in FLAC format. You can put over 200 albums in MPC -q5 on it, however. About the same number for MP3 --alt-preset standard, or Ogg -q5 or -q6.
