I burned the laser out on my 779 - and I knew the guy at the shop and got a mega guarantee - so it looks like I will be getting this one soon... Anyone tell me if it supports MP3's or not?

Cheers...

Do these standalone recorders have correct offsets?

Hi, after searching for cdr796 on www.consumer.philips.com I can confirm you that this CD recorder has mp3 playback. My experience with Philips products is that mp3 playback means "mp3 standard compliant". This implies VBR mp3 compatibility. You could also download the user manual from the Philips site, perhaps there's even more info in there.

Heh, I have nearly 200 posts and have to ask how exactly would I know?

Seems to me that most decent quality (not cheap sh1t) stuff managaes VBR ok.... Thinking about it, I ride past a Curry's, and a Comet on the way home.. they probably have one in there. AND I have a VBR MP3 disc on me smile.gif

It plays VBR fine biggrin.gif

(and <128kbps frames, and 320kbps, which I have HEARD cause problems before, but cant believe it)
