@mario82: I'm pretty new to the finer aspects of digital audio encoding myself, and what helped me out a great deal (in addition to reading through HA

) was
this. If all you want is a ripper that also automates/manages the MP3 encoding process, then focus on the chapters
Configure The EAC Options through
Configuring The Compression Options, and specifically on the
MP3: LAME.EXE chapter.
Also, make sure you download the latest EAC and LAME 3.90.3 as feces1223 points out.
Once you get everything installed and setup, then...
1. Run EAC and put in an audio CD.
2. Make sure no files are highlighted, press
Alt-G to gather track/artist/album info from freedb.org, then press
Shift-F5 to begin extracting all audio files. As each file is extracted, EAC will automatically kick-off a LAME encoding session with whatever command-line options you specified, up to three sessions at once (or four if you override the defaults). When it's done. the whole CD will be extracted and encoded to MP3.
Also, to properly volume-level your resulting MP3s, use
MP3Gain to adjust the relative playback volume. MP3Gain makes adjustments to each MP3 file in such a way that *any* player can play them back using the resulting gain (volume) adjustments...no "compatibility" issues. An extra step, but well worth it IMO.
