Hi
I have a question for you all...
Can i use high quality headphones like Seinnheiser and Grado with a portable cd player??? The external alimentation is 4.5 v......
Excuse me for the english, but i'm italian....
Thanks
Hanky
I have an iRiver IMP-250 portable mp3cd player and my experience is that it has not enough power to drive my BeyerDynamic DT911 headphones. Sound loudness is much lower compared to iRiver earbuds and low frequency (bass) signals are not reproduced very well.
Audible!
It depends greatly on the efficiency and impedance of the headphones in question.

Grado headphones are typically very efficient and will do fine.
The Sennheiser HD4xx series is also very efficient - my portable drives my HD497's excellently.

The more expensive Sennheiser HD580/600 and even the 280 headphones may need additional power, as will just about everything from BeyerDynamic.

OK thanks for replies
But....is there a way to make an external alimentation for headphones?

Alimentation - do you mean amplification? If so, there are a number of headphone amplifiers available that will provide more than enough signal. You can also do some searching on this site for some threads about headphone amplifiers.

I have seen the Grace 901 well received:

Also headphone amplifiers at Headroom:

I think he means extra or external power supply for the headphones (or for the amplification).
It's something I've been wondering too.

OT: Italian and French are quite close languages.

I am not sure what an extra or external power supply is - usually power supplies provide power to an amplifier or a source device (DVD player, computer, etc.).

Assuming you want more power for driving headphones you will want an external headphone amplifier. If you want an external amplifier with its own more powerful power supply, then the links above to the separate headphone amplifiers are what you want. I think there are several external amplifiers that can run difficult headphone loads to extremely high volumes. I have one from Headroom that works well for me.

I hope that answers what you (both) are asking - please try again if I missed the point. smile.gif

I use Etymotic ER-4Ps with my SlimX with no problems.
