96 kHz/24 Bit Audio Decoding:

WinDVD takes your listening experience to next level. It supports 96 kHz/24 bit audio decoding, which is like high definition TV for sound. 96/24 audio is studio-quality audio, the type of sound that professional musicians cut on master tapes. Treat your ears to 96/24 audio quality and make your movies seem almost real.

Does this simply mean support for 96/24 audio cards, or something different? I turned it on and the sound plays fine through my laptop's Yamaha AC-XG sound. Not that I can hear a difference with this setup rolleyes.gif , but was curious anyways.

Yes.

It also means support for 24bit/96kHz DVDs (either PCM, Dolby Digital, or DTS. Dunno about MLP). That support is a bit more critical, but I don't think it would make a lick of difference without a 24/96 sound card.

No MLP

Thanks, makes more sense now. So you need a specially encoded 96khz/24bit DVD (or other) source AND a 96khz/24bit capable sound card to have any use for the "Enable 96khz/24bit decoding" option in WinDVD. Is that correct?
