I think the poor guy doesn't have the slightest clue...
On the other hand, we kinda need quality media (Kodak and Mitsui are no more)...
There's nothing wong with his question...
All he needs is a good sized garage (I'd say around 100,000 ft^2) meeting a clean room standard of class 100 and a mere billion dollars or so for equipment (for smaller production runs). With that said, I hope he makes it a reality...for I'm eager to check out his disks!

wong,
Also, be sure to check some back issues of Optical Disc Systems, to see where replication technology and industry trends are heading:

There is a place around where i live that for years made their own tapes. I could go their and buy blanks tapes by the pallet load. they made custom length tapes also. which was used for Karaoke tapes., since they could be made to 7 minutes per side.
the place was not all that rich, it was actually a old factrory, with no business signs whatsoever (looks like a dump from outside!), i had only heard of the company via the MIX magazine classifed ads.
I dont know if they manufacturer their own CDs now, but who knows.
They do sell blank CDs now. and they do have Mitsui in their inventory list for Mitsui CDR-80 100 SPIN (Gold/Gold No Logo;100 spindle) $89.00
or example; Samsung CD-R 80 100S(100 pack spindle) .23 each / $22.90
they even sell Betamax tapes, DTRS tapes, Reel to Reel.......
If this guys wants to manufact his own CDs. thats cool.
