Argh! Uninstalled WinOnCD 6, EZCD 5, ISO Recorder, and still can't get Nero to burn!!!

"Drive is in use by another application."

What other application? Nero is all that is installed!

Going off to uninstall and reinstall Nero.

i really hope that with version 6 they start doing 'smart' updates instead of keep downloading complete versions. specially if they indeed keep working on the codecs as expected. haven't tried it yet, but is there an update function in the program somewhere?

(ahead must have the cheapest isp ever for being able to offer these huge files for download with every update blink.gif )

Just received my upgrade code in today's e-mail. IMHO that's pretty fast service.

Madrigal

Um I said upgraded codec not upgrade code

There's a bit of a difference wink.gif

I realize the difference, and I meant upgrade code, not upgraded codec. My post was not in reference to yours, else I would have quoted you.

it has been probably been asked before, but i tried to search on the forum and couldnt, but why is it that nero does not allows me to record cds with no 2 secs gap between all tracks? it says something that the first one needs to have a 2 sec gap ... sad.gif

That's probably because the first one needs a 2 second gap in front of it.
And that's no problem right? there is nothing in front of it anyways, so it is not really a gap smile.gif

Because Nero has a bad interface and allows you to change the pause before the 1st track. That makes no sense.
http://www.feurio.de/English/faq/faq_index...irsttrack.shtml

The worst is that Nero doesn't allow to put music in that index-0 of the 1st track.

There are better programs that remember your preferred settings, so you don't have to set 0 seconds pauses between tracks every time you make a compilation.

really? maybe i haven't paid attention, but i thought the problem was between the first and second ones, as obvious i never thougth of adding a "no gapp" to the first track ... would check smile.gif ... by the way menno ... what about a "standard nero" then? (or at least, allow me not to install optional components like wav editor) thanks

Well, I have nothing to say about that smile.gif

But I can suggest it to some people.

thanks, menno ... maybe you can let them now that nowadays, 99.99% of software installers allow you to do it wink.gif even Roxio's! and my allways shrinking HD would really apreciate it ... thanks again

Nero 6 Recode introduces 'bug' that could wipe hard drive
From cdfreaks.com:

An Chang used our news submit to tell us that the German online magazine PCwelt.de reports that Nero 6 contains a 'bug' that could delete your entire harddrive. The bug is introduced with the Nero 6 Recode project. Bug might even not be the correct word for it, it seems more that Ahead forgot to limit the feature to empty the destination folder for temporarily files.

If this destination directory is set to the root of a disc (e.g C : \) and if the question: "Destination folder is not empty, do you wish to clear it"  is answered with yes, all files will be deleted.

Description (badly translated with Babelfish):
Who clicks now over-hurried on "Yes" and had selected as goal file a root listing, short time experiences later its blue miracle: not only a "Video_ts" file put on in the goal file in former times is deleted, but also all other files and file on the partition concerned are deseamed within seconds by the plate. The user is nevertheless asked still whether he wants to delete the files.

A "Design error" is not however nevertheless. Because actually the user should assume "Nero Recode" means the existing "Video_ts" file in under "the target folder" indicated drive assembly and/or listing.

For now we would advise visitors to be carefull with this feature and to make sure to answer no on this question. There is no doubt Ahead will release a fix for this nasty feature soon. More information can be found on PCwelt.de .

Anyone who's experienced that? Any idea?

It is the bug experienced by many ppl (not me)
The thing is with IMAPI...
In the list of IMAPI services Manual (or Automatic) ---> to Disabled.

IMAPI is the cd burner that comes with WinXP. To disable the IMAPI service, go to Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services, double-click "IMAPI CD Burning", set "Startup type: Disabled", and click Stop below "Service status".

Et voilĂ .

edit: it seems that Nero can't be used if IMAPI is enabled.

Musiclover, thank you!!! Nyarlathotep, that is what I did. Didn't work when I was playing with the settings, but it DID after I closed the Services window (after changing the setting to disabled, I previously had it in manual). Downloading the updated version now! Thank you again folks!

Kimberly, surprised but not by much that a WinXP function to enable burning would have the opposite effect.

This supposedly fixes the Nero Recode bug and adds support for extra long Joliet filenames (109 characters).
