This new version is now available at Rarewares in all varieties. Nothing new, just a fix for a small bug in the writing of Playlist entries.

When setting quality to 10, nominal bitrate just under the q number gives 499.8 kbps.

Is this normal?

I always thought that q 10 is 500kbps round.

Well, it's normal in the sense that it is the number returned by the encoding engine rather than the number I was calculating previously!!

However, what you really want to know is whether there is any difference in the encoded output? None whatsoever. wink.gif

Well no, I know there's no difference in the output smile.gif

I was just puzzled by the dotted number (if it was some kind of bug or just my processor going mad)...

It's on the TODO list, but don't ask me for a delivery timescale!! wink.gif

Just checked the rarewares site, and there's no mention of the update - all versions are still numbered 1.7, and the dates are still in May. Might be useful to update this!

Cheers, Paul

Cheers, Paul. Could be I forgot to upload the changed html. I'm trying to check that but I can't access the ftp ATM, for some reason. I'll keep trying. rolleyes.gif

Could you fix the bug with -q2.3?

It always encodes at 2.29 for me, which is an unacceptable quality loss of 200bps wink.gif

As I still can't seem to get to the Rarewares ftp to update the OggVorbis page, the 1.7.1 versions can be downloaded from the following links:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jfe1205/oggdr...dV1.7.1-CVS.zip
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jfe1205/oggdr...1.7.1-CVSP4.zip
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jfe1205/oggdr...V1.7.1GT3b1.zip
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jfe1205/oggdr...PdV1.7.1src.zip

I'll sort out the Rarewares situation as soon as I'm able.

As I didn't find version 1.7.1 I cannot say if this bug still exists in the recent release. I found it in 1.7.0.

When I decode a Vorbis file to .WAV and while this process is going on change the bitrate for encoding the realtime indicator changes from 20x to 0.000023x. Obviously this bug doesn't harm the encoded or decoded files but is a flaw in that wonderful smile.gif little program.

Well, I haven't changed anything that would impact that, so I guess I need to take a look at it. Thanks for the notification. wink.gif

Why then does InfoTag Magic display the encoded files as nominal 499 KBps?
If it's just some sort of mirror of the error text as you say how can this be rectified?
