Hi all. I have just released a new, and IMHO quite useful program, and would like to offer it to your attention smile.gif

This command-line program helps to quickly locate and open your WinAmp playlists(or MP3s, or OGGs, or anything) using just parts of their full pathnames.

The program can even work over a network(using standard Windows shares), providing you easy access to your LAN's music collection. For acceptable performance, all lists of files are cached for 48 hours(default, can be changed).

For example, with KeyPlayer I enter "night fires" — and the program...

1. looks through the list of known playlists,
2. finds the first one with pathname containing the words "night" and "fires",
3. opens WinAmp to play the found playlist.

In my case, it will be "D:\Music\ - R. Blackmore & C. Night\ 2001_Fires_at_Midnight\ play.m3u". I could be even less specific, and type just "fires" — the program will still found the correct file — but only if there are no other files with pathname containing the word "fires".

Please share any ideas/suggestions/impressions. This is the first version, so some bugs may exist, though I didn't found any.

P.S: you may know me if you've used my LineInCode(but you've probably not).

Does it open Winamp persay, or the default media player? The latter would be better. smile.gif I really like this idea though. Simply type in the album name (how EAC names my playlists) and you get the desired result. Great concept!

Thanks!

The program opens whatever is registered as the handler for the file type(.M3U, in case of playlist), i.e. whatever opens when you doubleclick the file in Explorer.

But for it to close your media player correctly, you should add something like this to the command line:
CODE
-p "Windows Media Player"

When it will work on Linux, it will open mpg123 by default, but this could be changed by the same "-p" switch.
