WinABX v0.4, download at http://www.kikeg.arrakis.es/winabx/winabx.zip

- Layout redesign and minor interface improvements.
- Added several additional testing modes ("pure" ABX, ABC/HR) aside from the initial ABXY mode.
- Improved multiclient capability. Each client keeps and saved his tests results separately.
- Added possibility to view the full sesion results (log) from the program.
- Changed random number generation algorithm.
- Added the 'readme.txt' file.
- Added 'About...' window.
- Improved range selection with the CTRL and SHIFT keys.

There's a new WinABX readme.txt, with a detailed explanation of what is an ABX test, how to perform it, and how WinABX implements it.

I will test it, this evening maybe.
Thank you.

The more complete ABX tool that I've seen.
Thanks Kike. wink.gif

Is there an ABX for MP3 vs WAV or other formats?
den
Foobar's ABX tool lets you directly ABX mp3 vs wav vs Wavpack, etc.

True, but I was just answering the question, and foobar does let you readily ABX different formats directly against each other without manually going back to wavs and replaygaining them first.

Having said that, KikeG's WinABX tool is far superior for ABXing in my opinion, and while I haven't tried the new version yet, I always prefer to use the old version over foobar unless I'm in a real hurry. It has better position controls, etc, and you can more readily get the report for publishing, etc...

Thanks for the new version KikeG and keep up the excellent work. B)

Great piece of software!

My problem: I recently bought a Terratec Aureon with 3 discreet stereo output channels. Like most software, WinABX plays audio only on the first channel but I would also like it to play on the other channels. Maybe there is a simple way to mirror the output to the other channels? If so, that would really make my day! Ever since I upgraded the soundcard I haven't been doing as much ABXing because it allways means I have to crawl underneath my desk and switch plugs.

There's a small update available from a couple of weeks, released while HA was closed. Version 0.41 is available, as always, at http://www.kikeg.arrakis.es/winabx

Changes over version 0.4:

- Added possibility of reopening test files without exiting the program.
- Added range selection information to the log file.
- Minor user interface improvements.
- Small modifications to the 'readme.txt' file.

Gecko, thanks to you and the other people for your kind words.

As to your problem (sorry for taking so much to answer), I'm afraid I can't help you. The only thing I can think of is that you convert your 2-channel wavs to multichannel wavs somehow, and then play them.

Is there any possibility that you might implement ASIO output in the future?
KikeG
Maybe sort of... but not in a near future.

KikeG, I have noticed some visual glitches with the new versions when switching between ABXY/ABX/ABCHR modes.

Here are the screenshots (sorry for cleartype):

It may be relevant that I'm using large fonts.

Also, have you considered making a foobar2000 ABX component with the same fuctionality as WinABX?

The advantages would be

1. Support of all major compressed audio formats, with proper gap removal for LAME-encoded mp3s.

2. Native replaygain support to compensate for possible volume differences.

3. A possibility to use kernel streaming/ASIO outputs as well as on-the-fly resampling to 48 kHz with SSRC for the soundcards that would benefit from it.

I think it's due to the fact that you are using large fonts. I didn't account for this, so I guess I should correct it in a future version.

I could take a look at it. I have little spare time for programming at home, I know almost nothing about foobar2000 SDK, and I know very little about GUI Windows programming with Win32 API or MFC (WinABX is written in BC++ Builder), so maybe this would be too much work.

Updated version to v0.42:

- Small update to random number generation algorithm.
- Corrected wrong version number in the about box.
- Small modifications to the 'readme.txt' file.

I'm not really sure the updated random number generation algorith was neccessary, I think the former version was OK in this respect. However, now the random number generation is the same as in ff123's ABC/HR.
