Full Version: Ape file's cue giving me a Very hard time

Ok, I'm going koo-koo here with these "file open failed" errors in Mp3DirectCut followed by attempts to edit the cue, then the error again, and so on. huh.gif dry.gif blink.gif rolleyes.gif

The file is "Beck - Sea Change (EAC, APE CUE).rar". I already decompressed the file in M.A. and was going to use Mp3DirectCut to split the wav. It isn't accepting the cue (nor did EAC at first -- it thankfully specifically tells you what is wrong, until it was deemed acceptable, but EAC doesn't split waves, or does it? Anyway, I copied the EAC accepted cue into the cue itself, and Mp3DirectCut still did not accept it.)

I've tried all kinds of configurations -- adding the file's path in "FILE:", leaving it out, adding .wav to the file, adding .ape to the file, entering "Wave" and "Wav" outside the file's name -- nothing! Here is just an example of the latest failed configuration. Hopefully someone can help. Thanks.

You need an extension of that file and you might want to use a relative path instead.
Secondly yes EAC does split wav files.
EAC --> tools --> split wave by cue-sheet.

Finally! I was able to do it in EAC. Thanks. wink.gif
So why do you think EAC accepted the cue and MDC didn't?
Btw, I don't know what you mean by using a "relative" path.
Gnerma
This is a relative path

If you do this the program will assume the file is in the same directory as the cue sheet. This makes a whole lot more sense because you can move the wav and cue files around anywhere and all is well as long as they are together.

MP3directCut probably does not want to take the file because A] you had no file extension in the cue sheet or B] MP3directcut does not cut files that are not MP3.

A small aside, you don't ever want to split up MP3 files. It leaves very noticeable and very annoying artifacts behind right where the files were cut apart. Major audio players support reading cuesheet and then showing track titles and times etc in the playlist. Foobar2000 does this natively, for winamp you need a plugin.

I have all my ripped albums as single lossless files with cue sheets. I find it easier to deal with that way, its something you might consider.

EDIT - Invision turned my B] into a smilie smile.gif

Thanks for the reply. wink.gif

-I have split an ape file w/ Mp3Directcut before -- that was also part of why I didn't understand the failure...

-What brought about that aside?

Oh I dunno.. You were messing around with this stuff so I figured I'd warn you about that if you did not know about it. I learned the hard way so I'd hate for you or anybody else to have to. smile.gif
