Im in a slump right now as to which version of ID3tagging i should use. My friend says ID3 v2 is evil because it inserts data where its not wanted and 1.1 is a bit risky too. He says ID3 v1 never did any harm.... ...I'm not sure if to trust him which do you guys use and why? *thanks a lot in advance*

I use APE2 (for replaygain info) & ID3V1 (for compatibility).
Frankly, I think you people are all nuts. ID3V2 is nice because it has no length restrictions like ID3V1, and works with damn near everything MP3. The only hindrance is that (in theory) because they are at the beginning of the file, they can cause problems on playback with players not supporting them, and that the file needs to be re-written the first time you add them.
Big deal - every player I've tried reads them fine. Why use a format designed for compatibility (MP3) with an incompatible tag format like APE? Leave APE for things like MPC, in my opinion.
...and to further, I've found resaves to be very fast once the ID3v1 tags have been ripped out. Using --id3v2-only --pad-id3v2 when encoding results in files that are playable in everything I've tried, and the padding virtually eliminates whole file re-writes.

Well, I use allways ID3v1.1 and ID3v2.3.
I never made the switch to ID3v2.4 because there is no support in Winamp for this version, and the 2.4-support-Plug-in I found did not work.
