Just wanted to know, so I could try it out smile.gif

Thanks

So far as I'm aware, no.
rjamorim
There isn't.

And the FhG filter that comes with windows is excellent. There is no reason to use MAD.

MAD + Peter's SSRC = excellent ! wink.gif

Excellent compared to what?

You got ABX reports to prove it? :B

Or are you just experiencing a warm fuzzy feeling because you are using these geek tools?

The one that comes with Winamp is probably the best. It's offers the most features, and audio quality is high.

Mad also offers lots of features, but it borks Shoutcast streaming. IIRC, it steals all HTTP streams to itself, so you can't use Winamp to play vorbis streams, etc.

mpg123 is also of high quality, but it offers very few extra features. Last time I checked, it didn't even read tags.

Thanks rjamorim! biggrin.gif

I see. smile.gif

Does MAD contain good resampler? That could be the reason for having it, because FhG does'nt contain that feature. One day i will by good soundcard...
ChristianHJW
According to Toff from the Corecodec Team the opensource ffdshow filter from milan will come with MAD MP3 decoding, but this info has not been verified from my side ....
S_O
There is a directshow-filter: http://www.mars.org/mailman/public/mad-dev...ril/000578.html
But I couldnīt find it. The mp3 decoder in windows is fine, but the mpeg audio layer 1/2 decoder is not that good, it doesnīt support layer 2 files that are not within the bitrate-limitations (224kbps mono for example)
I know Milan wants to add MAD-Decoder to ffdshow audio decoder, but it isnīt done yet, only libavcodec mp3 and mplayer mp3 decoder.
Since there is still developement in mad, there will maybe SBR decoder added and multichannel MPEG.

No. It decodes, dithers, but doesn't resamples.

Probably the guy never actually finished it.

SBR is unlikely. CodingTechnologies never released specifications or sources concerning the MP3 SBR implementation (they released a library once, but you can't link it to a GPL decoder like MAD). Even though it would be theoretically possible to extrapolate from the MPEG4 SBR sources, still it would require big amounts of reverse engineering.

guys you are all late, there is already a directshow filter based on mad:
it is from the same guy S_O pointed to in his link, i know that cause i bugged him to upload the filter + sources on sourceforge to make it available for the public tongue.gif

get it here!

but it seems that armin has not much time to work on it any more...

This filter seems to garble the first few samples, especially when opening a new MP3 while another was playing (in Media Player Classic). If someone with DirectShow knowledge could fix this, that would be great. Also, I thought that mp3lib used the MAD library??

Edit:
Also, the MAD Transform Filter doesn't load for all MP3 audio. It doesn't seem to accept the the Audio subtype "Audio: 0x00000055" with CLSID "{00000055-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71}." This seems to only be an issue with MP3 in AVI.

plz post these two bugs with detailed describtions separetely in the bug tracking system on sourceforge:

will point armin to it smile.gif

but dont expect that there will be updates very often as armin doesnt has much time for it,
perhaps if someone else want to join the project too?

The interaction between all the Corecodec devs is pretty good, you might wonna tell him ....

Actually there is already audio support in ffdshow. I have tested it briefly yesterday and it seems that ac3 and mp3 decoding is working ok. Dunno what is it based on.

If you want to try, here's the download:

Maybay i should go whining to ffdshow filter builders that resamplers should be included...

I think the MAD winamp plugin is far superior to the standard winamp mpeg plugin I heard the difference instantly.

I have a terratec ewx24/96 and I play my mp3s 32bit padded optically to my sony digital amp, works a treat. I've not heard any mp3 playback that comes close.

To hell with you bearded old man. (I'll be equally and unnecessarily rude.)

[warning]I'd like to add that I did put I think, not is. So it's just an opinion rather than statement of fact. There may be some convincing info on the MAD site...

Interesting that final scratch uses MAD, if you play dance music.

Other info on my system are the speakers are monitor audio siliver 8i which i've customized with audio cladding and different capacitors (cables are qed silver anniversary biwires.)

The amp is a Sony DB940.

Well, I hope you understand that the decoder influence on quality is maybe 0.001% (impossible to say, but it's very small).
The 99.999% comes from the encoder and its settings used.

I'd barely consider the developer's site an unbiased source of information. BTW, that accuracy table is outdated.

Here's some better and healthier reading for you:

wowzer i didn't realize how much mad debate they'd been . anydo's the stuff about the direct routing matches my experiences with the ewx and the info on the clipping was useful. "MAD's the best thing in MP3 since MP3 itself!" i liked that quote heh.
