Full Version: Here's an idea, tabbed multiple playlists?

I've been thinking bout what could set Foobar apart from other players and I thought, if we have tabbed browsers, why not a nifty feature where we can enter multiple playlists into tabs in the same Foobar window to easily switch between them and have a new level of audio organization? I myself would enjoy this feature, but I'm not sure bout the CPU effects or the amount of work involved in expanding the Foobar interface as well as the ease of implementation. Some of you might like just having 3000 songs on one list, but I know there are other people who might find this pretty nifty.

Any thoughts from you regulars and devs as to whether you think this is a good idea and relatively doable, or just plain not a good idea or too much trouble?

Count me in. In fact tabs in general would ideal. But I'm a sucker for punishment...

I've had this idea before, I might make additional UI component (with tabs) for that after 0.7.
Or someone can write a component that switches between multiple playlists, would work with existing UI.

that would be great peter .... multiple playlists is something i'm really looking forward

Tabbed playlists, or some similar form of quick access, multi-playlist control would be a really great feature. The multi-playlist support in Winamp3 was very nearly the only carrot I had for tolerating that program's *ahem* foibles.

Add such a feature to Foobar2000 and there will be little left to ask for in my opinion. Well, that and keep the whole thing straight forward, responsive and functional.

It is great to be a user. All we have to do is demand new features and complain when they break or seem to break. B)

Tabbed playlists with with a different title formatting for each playlist would be great.

That would be a total overkill IMHO! A better (and already existing) aproach is here: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....showtopic=11808

Actually it sounds like a pretty good idea to me, overkill maybe, but it lets you have album play lists and single song play lists, and you can have nice formatting in them both, without the need of hitting a hotkey after switching playlists...

Okay. If you've had enough of my ramblings (aka have heard even part of one), just skip to the next post. Nothing new to see here.

That said, I think a great idea would be the ability to give tabs to non-playlist items as well - albumlist, vis plugins, all that other stuff that you mpg123 fans out there wish never existed (way-over-everybody's-head alert! mpg123 is a command-line decoder that only appeals to extreme masochists, people too lazy to write or even adapt their own mp3 decoder for their GUI, and someone who needs to decode lots and lots and lots of mp3s to wav.)

Somebody please please please stop me before I make an ass of myself. I almost posted a political diatribe.

Seriously now: tabbed foobar = good foobar. Can everybody say that back to me?
tabbed...foobar...equals...good...foobar... Good boy. Have a tripe ration (you don't wanna know - it will destroy you).

Yes to Albumlist. Especially if you could set tabs for different main folders where your music resides. Playlists, etc. would be good as well. But the power of tabs at root directories is more appealing to me.

Exactly, and it can be made so that if you don't want to use tabs, just load one playlist and no tabs will appear!!! Simple as that, nobody has a reason to complain and everybody is happy. Even with tabs, the player is still going to be less resource heavy (and more functional) than Winamp 2.X

Imagine a database search on one playlist that would dump the results into a new playlist.

Maybe with a checkbox to start playing immediately?
