I hate Sony ! Why don't they allow us to upload minidisc atrac files
to PC ? Are they afraid to see their blank MD sales drop ?
Will someone find a way to do it ? Is it just a dream ?
So many questions... I need answers ! Thanks

So many questions, but so few answers. I will have a crack at it anyway.

I think the original reason for not allowing uploading was to help control the spread of illegal recordings, but at the same time of course, it restricts many, very valid uses for Minidisc. I do not think it has anything to do with blank sales...

Will someone crack it? Unlikely. You would need to change the hardware/firmware in your player to allow it to talk back to the PC. I think you will find that in the hardware, the communication is mainly one way, from the PC to the MD, with just a few bits sent back to confirm connection, report status, etc. When you check in tracks with the Sony software, it is not uploading the music back to the PC, it is just signalling that it has deleted the track on MD, and to reset the check in/out counter in the database.

Sorry to ruin your dream. dry.gif

OK, so I guess it's bye bye minidisc, hello MP3 recorder !

Here is something I find very interesting :

When I'll get my mp3 recorder, I'll never use a minidisc again.
