QUOTE
"I think it's interesting that so many clinical trials are necessary before a prescription can be signed for medicinal marijuana, because there are many drugs that are being used that have never passed double-blind placebo controlled studies," Conyette told the Brandon Sun. "Why would medicinal marijuana be singled out, when 80 per cent of many hospital procedures have never been studied with double-blind, placebo controlled tests?"

Slightly off-topic, but related in a way because of the mention of double blind.

Not exactly ABX but ...
Well, you could be a judge for one of those contests they hold in Amsterdam and in Canada. You judge on color (visual), smell, and the kind of high. You toke on a few dozen varieties over the course of a couple of days or more.

The judging is blind though, because you don't know what you're sampling, just a code number. After the contest is when the name of the bud, and who submitted it is revealed, then scores are tallied across all the judges (there are a few hundred of you.) to determine ranking.

I have never participated in those contests ever though, so I really wouldn't know, just what I've read in magazines and websites. Google for "Northern Lights" "Skunk" and stuff like that, interesting... ... for most countries though, it is against the law, so be sure to check.

These contests must only be in Ontario (edit: the Canadian ones I mean), pot is legal there for the time being (because of a supreme court ruling) but new legislation will soon be put in place. Once this legislation is in place pot will be illegal again in Ontario and in the rest of the country it will (finally) no longer be a criminal code offence.

Sorry to come down on a light-hearted topic, but in the guise of being informative, here goes.

ABX is an implementation of a double blind test, but it is by no means the only way of doing it. A double blind test is usually implemented a lot differently for drugs, so that the user acts as the trial.

I also question the effectiveness of a double blind test on medicinal marijuana (especially if it's admininstered via cigarette). Presumably, the side effects of marijuana will be quite evident and ruin the test. A double blind placebo test is effective in answering the question, "Is there a noticeable difference between it and effectively nothing?" In this case, I hypothesize that people on marijuana will experience weight gain, symptoms of cotton mouth, and a general state of euphoria.

The munchies cause the weight gain, not the pot. It's important to remember that this drug, like most others of the street variety, affects different people in different weighs; not all people get the munchies so not all gain weight from marijuana.
