Which is the highest quality I can get with mp3Pro?
Does Lame 3.91 support mpr3Pro, and if it does who can I achive that?
Is it worth using mp3Pro ?
What would you recommend me,
mp3Pro at CBR/96Kbs/Highest quality,
LameEnc DLL v1.26 Engine 3.91 at VBR/Highest quality/Stereo or
Fhg Radium MP3 codec v1.263 at CBR/192Kbs/Stereo/Highest quality ?

or something else ?!

thanx

If it was just between the above 3, I'd go with FhG.

have a suggestion?

96kbps (or was it 90) CBR with Nero

Nope

> Is it worth using mp3Pro ?
Not really, it's poorly supported.

Vorbis of MusePack but if you want to stick wit MP3

Nah

I would go with a preset like
--alt-preset insane: CBR 320, way overkill
--alt-preset extreme: VBR, if you really want HIGH quality
--alt-preset standard: Well, it's standard

I would go with LAME

mp3pro is a seperate codec (i.e. not dependent on LAME), that was developed purely for low-bitrate uses. At reasonably high bitrates, it can't compete with regular MP3 codecs in providing accurate reproduction of music. LAME with the VBR setting "--alt-preset standard" (no stereo, it doesn't work best with VBR) will outperform FhG 192 kbps CBR stereo, and most certainly mp3pro (at any bitrate). Feel free to browse the board for more information, i don't wanna go more in-depth with this yet, as i see you're fairly new to it.. :naughty: (testing new smilies, hehe).

There's no need to use Stereo in Lame, because the Joint Stereo mode is very safe.

So if I were you I'd just use the preset --alt-preset cbr 192

Didn't he specify the Lame *DLL* engine? I thought that didn't (officially) support the --alt presets (I could be wrong).

OK. Today I used RazorLame 1.1.5 with Lame.exe(3.91), at
VBR 0 (160-320),Stereo and it sounds great for me.
Nobody said anything 'bout mp3Pro.

The highest bitrate is 96kbps, according to Codingtechnologies.

But the only encoder for that bitrate is Nero's

1) For MP3 I would enter (in RazorLame) >Expert>Custom Options
--alt-preset standard . It would yield better quality than your settings at lower bitrates.

2) I wouldn't choose mp3 PRO unless you listen to Britney and n'Sync it royally sucks... those are the only stuff that sounds good on mp3 PRO smile.gif dammit they should've called it mp3Consumer-Joe-I-want-only-lower-bitrates-don't-care-about-quality.

3) Try to lurk and also search on this board... there's been plenty of discussion regarding mp3 or even switching to other formats.

The highest quality (for bitrates above ~160kbps) would be choosing mpc.

yup...

cdr for the masses.. well.. since nero upped to 5.5 series..
the app. itself have been a "bug - fest".
the core seem to be stable enough.. but the thing
that buggs the hell out of me.. is that they jumped directly
from standard FgH enc. to mp3pro instead of lame..
(as standalone encoder/decoder plugin.. that is)

so have anyone at this forum crossed the idea
of implement lame into nero.. as they state you have
"green light" from ahead to do so....

They never published the plugin specs. So, It's nearly impossible to implement lame as MP3 encoder.

mp3pro, as implemented by Steinberg MyMP3Pro 3.0, will encode at 128 and 160 kbit/s. But mp3pro at 128 and 160 is inferior to regular mp3 at those same bitrates. If you want to hear this for yourself, visit:

http://ff123.net/samples.html

and listen to the OnceSolemn and Enchantment files.

At 96 kbit/s, mp3pro is competitive with other 96 kbit/s formats, and may satisfy those who want 128 kbit/s regular mp3 quality at 96 kbit/s.

well... with or without.. there must be a way..

i don`t know.. but the functions of Fgh codec in nero,
and the lame_enc.. seem to be very similar (?)

shure have been awesome.. if someone would loock
closer on this subject

BWT.. is it duable to build in lame exe with a front end
as neros mp3 engine (standalone) not as a plugin ??
