Hydrogenaudio Forums > Hydrogenaudio Forum > Validated News
dB
OptimFROG is a lossless audio compressor. Here are the improvements of the new version:
- again, another up to 100% faster operation on modern
processors, and up to 270% on older ones, with the same
results
- new buffering scheme for faster disk operation
- Linux version with same functionality and speed as the
Win32 version
- full pipe support under both Win32 and Linux
- added seek support option for compressed files
- Winamp™ input plug-in for real-time decoding
- OptimFROG will now completely replace FROG
- fine-tuned the compression engine
- fixed some slowdown problems in the compression engine
- new "best" mode (4) for benchmarking
- removed stereo mode option, using automatic settings
- graphic percentage display

Did you say faster, with a WinAmp plugin? For me those are the magic words for OptimFrog. Awesome news! I'm working on a drop frontend for Frog right now. Ghido rocks!

I want it at my site. : D

How does this compressor compare to other lossless compressors like Monkey's and LPAC?(Some tests or comparisons) Also, is there an XMMS plugin?

Interesting MonkeyA forum's thread ("OptimFROG 4.2 released and some thoughts... "):

stereo decorrelation algorithm idea used in OptimFROG, as now it's implemented in MAC 3.95a1 and is the key to the big jump in compression performance.

Hmm, I wonder if this can be implemented also for example to MPC.. smile.gif

Highest compression available. Bar none.

Take care, the format is not stable:

"OptimFROG42Win32.ZIP 65196 bytes / CRC32 82E40B11
(take care, the compressed format for 4.2 is incompatible with 4.1)".

About OptimFrog4.2: for better compression (also better than Monkey's extra-high) use no-seek, mode 4 and speedup 2 or 4, example:

optimfrog a input.wav output.ofr 4 2

Layer3Maniac....How bout a frontend for OptimFrog called FROGDrop? It looks like there is only an executable and the format is really nice. What do you think?
Speek
I made a frontend for OptimFROG. It's called Kermit.http://home.wanadoo.nl/~w.speek/kermit.htm
