but im not 100% sure that ACE supports "single file extraction"

Yeah i used google
and what about implementing user-configurable archive reader? like in FAR manager. User just have to set up paths and strings to various CONSOLE archiver binaries, and foobar then unpacks file in %temp% folder, plays and deletes it. So, u get the point?
