hi there, i just upgrade to RC10 (uninstalled v0.667 completely before) but when i'm playing a file i'm getting a lot of those cpu usage "spikes" (that goes from 0% to ~18% with mp3 or ogg and from 0% to ~5% with mpc) but since the task manager reports were not that reliable i got foo_null and did some speed tests and i'm getting an average decoding speed of 24x with mp3 and ogg and 40x with mpc, with no dither, but how much of the cpu is actually being used?
I have all internal components installed, only DSP used is Volume Control, Direct Sound Output (Hardware Mixing Allowed), 16bit fixed point, no dither, Visualization Disabled, Win2K SP4 and SBLive 5.1
TIA

To convert decoding speeds to average CPU usage simply divide 100% by decoding speed, 24x gives about 4.2% and 40x 2.5%. But because playing in real time only needs to use CPU occasionally task manager usually doesn't detect anything.

so Case those spikes dont mean anything?
10% cpu usage can mean for example 20% cpu usage for one second, then 0% for the next one, or 40% cpu usage for one second, then 0% for the next three.
It depends a bit on how fb2k works internally. A trick may be to make the output buffer smaller, but I'm not sure if that would 'flatten out' the spikes. In any case they shouldn't be any problem.

hmm ic, thx garf, i only thought it was strange cuz it didnt happen with 0.667 and 0.7 was supposed to have even less cpu usage
