Can someone please test this sample using:

Nero LAME 3.93.1 mp3 @ "--alt-preset -medium" (Encoder = 9)

and

mp4 @ "-standard" (Encoder Quality = High, AAC Profile = LC)

My own problem sample (The error of some elements.flac)

And then do the same with:

2nd vent clip.flac
41 30sec.flac
applaud00.flac
badvilbel.flac
beo1test.flac
bloodline.flac
BlueEyesExcerpt.flac
charlies.flac

from http://ff123.net/samples.html

Please let me know if you can ABX them or not! smile.gif

[EDIT1 - SEEM TO BE EXPERIENCING SOME DIFFICULTIES UPLOADING THE COMPLETE FILE?]
[EDIT2 - OH WELL, IT SHOULD BE ENOUGH TO ABX ANYWAY! smile.gif ]

With the lame ap medium there are 2 different problems, each of them ABXable, with AAC only one of them (talking about the sample you've uploaded).

1st: click between the 1st and 2nd repetition is softer with lame
2nd: the "fs" of the words "of some" isn't as crisp as the original with both codecs. It seems to be moved in stereo image and sounds somehow artificial, like flanging.

Anyway, I don't see how the other samples are related to this. Is there something specific you're trying to find?

The mp3 version sounded better to me???

However, the other samples, which I didnt upload sounded better with mp4???

So, I thought that maybe this is a problem sample for mp4 unsure.gif

I see. As I was to tired to realize that it's about "what sounds better" when writing my last post some clarification:

This applies to mp4; the mp3 is just "not as crisp"

So yes, IMO the mp3 is better.

Yup. Especially as it's speech which shouldn't be hard to compress, I thought.

BTW: I've used aacenc32.dll v. 2.5.5.2 from the latest NeroMediaPlayer demo.
