Full Version: ID3V2 without stripping ID3V1?

I've using Chris "kode54" Moeller's ID3v2 Tag Support for 0.7 but I was hoping there was a way of writing ID3V2 taggs using Foobar without having the ID3V1 being stripped from the file.

I have a portable CD MP3 player that displays files with only ID3V2 tags slightly strangely - it adds a wierd block character to the beginning of each tag and it really goes haywire if it sees an APE V2 tag!

So - I suppose I need a option in 'Inputs'/'Sandard inputs'/'MP3 tag writting'/'Type of tag to write:' - ID3V1 AND ID3V2 - do I? As "other supported types will be stripped from file".

Id3v2 tags are stripped. Not ID3v1.

Look at Preferences > Playback > Input > Standard Inputs. It tells you there what is gonna get the axe.

I'm afraid it does strip ID3V1 tags if you select 'Type of tags to write:' ID3V2 with kode54's plugin installed. Try it youself. Open the file in, say Winamp, hit Alt+3 (file info) and you'll see the ID3V1 tag is gone.

Rectangle is right. I think there is some kind of weirdness associated with tagging files with both V1 and V2, but I'm not sure.

Can't you just strip them both and then rewrite both APEv2 and ID3 at the same time?

No, I can't. I've tried that but as I stated in my original post my CD MP3 player "really goes haywire if it sees an APE V2 tag!" It won't display the ID3V1 correctly if an APEv2 tag is present. It just displays wierd stuff such as: Title - EX™: : and Artist - à .

Now I know I can use another tagger such as Winamp's to have ID3v2 & ID3V1 at the same time allowing me full metadata functionality in Foobar but it would be nice if editing in Foobar did not strip ID3v1 when writing ID3v2 tags.

I have to second this request for pretty much the same reasons.
XMMS also seems to have a little trouble reading ID3v2 tags and prefer ID3v1.
Not that this has anything to to with foobar, but still.
The code for writing ID3v1-tags are there... so is the code for ID3v2. Using them both shoudn't be terribly hard.

Another, slightly offtopic question.
What version of ID3v2 does the plugin write?

Just being curious. sleep.gif

Oh, yea... Hi everyone!
I've been stalking these forums for quite some time, but this is my first post.

Your hardware player sounds like it's a real piece of shit.

.... Ask Peter to add ID3v2 + ID3v1 mode or something...

What's wrong with you, kode54? Relax man; it's not like somebody's trying to kick you in the nuts....

Peace on earth for those who deserve it (and perhaps even more so for the ones that don't) B)

Peter, aka zZzZzZz, read this forum all the time. You just have to wait.

If he thinks that this issue deserves attention you will know.
