A friend of mine moved to Singapore last year, and he tells me most people know many mandarin, malay and tamil words as well... Oh, and something about Bubblegum baned there, hehehe, whatever.

Hmm no littering; no spitting; no eating, drinking or smoking underground; and no going to NEWTON HAWKER CENTER at night because of gangs stabbing white ppl... Other than that, place seems pretty safe at the moment. Oh, and most crimes have death penalty, like anything involved with narcotics. But according to CIA Singaspore is: "used as a transit point for Golden Triangle heroin and as a venue for money laundering"

Spicy food is default.. even at McDonalds, you have to explicity ask for normal ketchup instead of chilli. It is a small island started by the British as a trade colony, go figure. Population: 5 million, tropical climate with rainy season.

It is a FINE country:
Fine for not crossing on the pedestrian strips.
Fine for eating, smoking, drinking in the MRT.
Fine for not using seat belt in a car.
Fine for littering or throwing cigarette on street.

Ordinarily, I wouldn't even have been bothered to reply to trolls such as this, but your post is so wildly inaccurate and full of crap that I can't simply let it pass by.

First off, about gum - I'm not sure, but its definitely not illegal to consume, just to bring in and sell it. Plenty of my friends have stashes of gum. And to be absolutely honest, since the banning of gum, you don't get any more gum remnants sticking to your soles anymore.

No littering, no spitting - care to tell me at all how this is BAD? Eating / drinking underground? It can be done, I've done it before. Just don't make it too obnoxious, considering the fact that there are people around you.

Smoking? Considering that the majority of people here are non-smokers, and that (nearly) everything underground is air-conditioned, why allow a small percentage of the population to make life miserable for the rest?

As for crimes with death penalty, care to illustrate with examples? I can only think of two - drug trafficking and murder. And I don't see what's wrong with the death-penalty of either of the two ( perhaps for drug trafficking might be a little harsh).. Maybe perhaps because Venezula is washed out in drugs, that's why you can't accept the fact of a harsh penalty for drugs?

Gangs at Newton Hawker Centre? That's a pretty popular place, me and my friends have taken leisurely strolls there past midnight.. I'd say its pretty safe... As for gangs stabbing cauasians, well, quite honestly, I've never heard of anything of the like. As compared to Venezula? I'd say its heaven to hell, what with express kidnappings, piracy, violent demonstrations and the like...

As for your CIA quote, its taken way out of context. It mentions that Singapore is "vulnerable" to being used for drug transit and money laundering. It doesn't mean that there is a huge outflow. Contrast that to Venezula ( from your same CIA source ) , which states that "large quantities of cocaine, heroin, and marijuana transit the country from Colombia bound for US and Europe; significant narcotics-related money-laundering activity". So your point is?

Problems with spicy food? Can't stomach it? Too lazy to even ask for ketchup? And what's with the history part? Heck, at least Singapore got started out for legtimate purposes.. Venezuela? The product of a futile search for El Dorado...

As for the part of the fines, well, they're way overblown. They exist, sure, but more as a deterrent, and are not applied obsseively, and there are good reasons behind each of them. You think the local police has nothing better to do than go rounding people who jaywalk? Wake up! All these goes a long way to building a relatively peaceful and stable place.

My point is simple. If you're basing your views off hearsay and reports from biased sources, well, then you're just plain naive. Unless you've lived in that country / spent some time there, you aren't qualified to comment. Especially not when your own country is worse than one you're talking about.

For crying out loud, your opinions are to me what an uneducated person would say after watching a TV programme (in CNN or the BBC) and browsing thru some pages about Venezuela.

Please inform yourself about Venezuela and then say anything you want. And Venezuela being washed out in drugs, it's plain BS.

And I have been in Venezuela and the reality just makes you look like a fool. There are many countries I'd rather not live in than Venezuela.

Bleah... this "thread" is an example of why it's dangerous to crack a joke on some boards. I made one slightly sarcastic (but humorously intentioned) remark, and the whole thing devolved into something else entirely. What's more, it bothers me to see myself credited as the one who started it!
