I installed a couple of free screen savers and I think I have some spyware, or programs, running in the back ground of my computer now. I used spy bot fthe first time to get rid of some spyware and then ran it a second time. After the second time it reported there were none, but I still think there might be one or two because of lagging. Is there anything else I could do to fix this problem?
Thanks,
-Darin

try Adware.
I've tried Adware and found Spybot worked better, but I might try it again(it's been about six months). I notice everytime I close a program or do anything on my computer there is internet activity through my fire wall using Generic Host Process for 32 Win services. Could this be spyware sending info of what I do for statstics?
Thanks,
-Darin
There are a TON of free screensavers right now that are spyware. Since screensavers are pretty useless programs, I recommend staying away from all of them unless you can be sure they're not evil. Ad-aware is the best spyware remover I know, but there's so much new spyware/scumware coming out it's really important to stay up to date.
Remember, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not all out to get you.

I think Spybot S&D is better as well, but I've noticed that Ad-aware 6 is now updated more often than Spybot S&D and there may be the possibility that one program may detect something the other doesn't currently recognise (just like antivirus software). Therefore I think it is necessary to use both Spybot S&D and Ad-aware.

Hell with adaware, just find the names of the apps, then do a search and destroy for keys and entrys in the registry (using regedit of course) that countain that name. Then do the same with find files and folders. Fun and easy . . .
Note: Don't hold me responsible if you delete something important in the reg and have to reinstall windows.
