Sorry if this is a dumb question, I have done searches on this site, and the flac FAQ etc...and it may be obvious, but I could not find the answer quickly.

I'm lazy really...but the question basically is, if I convert mp4 files to FLAC, will I at least maintain the quality of the mp4 files? (since FLAC is lossless).

Why, you may ask...?

I am hoping to get a Rio Karma...it takes mp3, OGG, FLAC etc....but I already have many GB of songs encoded to mp4 (well ,m4a really for my Ipod) that I would like to put on the Karma quickly. In time I will encode to FLAC from the originals, but for starters I just wanted to get songs on there. Since the Karma does not support mp4 files, but I have all these files encoded to an extremely high quality ('Ultra' VBR preset), I thought this might be a quick way of getting some files on the Karma to try it out.

TIA...

Yes, the flac files will have identical quality to the mp4 files.
