Is Wavpack the only codec which has a hybrid mode (ie high quality lossy file, with a correction file to decode losslessly with)?

I'd quite like to use it, but the seeking in wavpack is unacceptably slow (this is in Winamp, haven't tried using any other player).

OptimFrog has an hybrid mode called Dual Stream. But it's still beta, AFAIK.

Anyway, OptimFrog isn't very fast at seeking either.

I suggest you wait for WavPack4. It'l feature an improved hybrid mode and instant seeking (among other features)

Any tentitative release date?

Also maybe I'm being thick here, but is there any way to encode to hybrid wavpack using EAC? I tried and while the lossy file is done fine, the correction file doesn't get named properly (still gets called tmp4548543574395789.wvc or whatever).

I'll just stick with flac for the time being and reencode later. There shouldn't be any problem reencoding the flacs to wavpack hybrid and transferring the flac tags to apev2 all in one go right?

Yes, the one the author has provided smile.gif

Bryant :  Thanks for the interest, guys! If all continues go well (i.e. by staying in wood buildings, etc.) I should be alpha testing in September, betas in November, and release in January.

You can find the thread here : WavPack 4.0, any chance to see it ?, yes bryant, it's for you ! ;-)

It was posted in the lossless section of this forum less than two weeks ago. The Search page is REALLY useful, although not very intuitive. biggrin.gif

And any ways to use it in hybrid mode with EAC?
