Full Version: How to rename folders?
Hydrogenaudio Forums > Hydrogenaudio Forum > General Audio

Right now each cd in a folder "artist - album [date] (codec)"

What if I wanted all the folders to be \codec\artist (date) album\
?

I could use tag and rename with sub directories in a new folder but that would move only the music files and not remove the old directories.

I need something that would rename the current folders (perhaps adding the /codec/ directory would be mroe complex rather than just a rename so skip that)

Anything up to the task?

I've been using The Rename for years . . . free and works great!

Good question. I've wanted such a tool ever since I've been backing up albums to CD-R, to restore cutoff directory names - but to do that, the program has to read the tags in the files. Tag is not an option since it won't move non-music files (EAC log, CUE sheet, etc.), it has to be a tool that actually renames the album folders.

I know of no tool that can do this. I suppose it would be easy enough to write a wrapper for Tag that makes this possible (or modify Tag itself) for anyone who can program, but I can't. tongue.gif Hmm... Case? wink.gif
