I currently have Roxio easy CD creator (the basic program that came with my Dell PC in 2001). It works well enough for my needs, but it seems like its time now to upgrade. This week, Roxio Easy CD and DVD Creator is advertised for $50 with the upgrade from a previous version rebate. That seems like quite a good deal, since it was $100 a month ago.
I have checked out the features on their web site and it appears to be quite the program.
HOWEVER, I know people in this forum, many of whom I consider to have great knowledge of digital audio, swear by Nero 6. The latest price for Nero is $100, but can be caught on sale for $80. Other than AAC support (I plan to use QT for my ACC) and Foobar integration (I use dBPoweramp) - what makes Nero 6 worth the extra $30 over Roxio? Or is it?
Your advice is appreciated.

For starters, IMHO, the basic core quality of Nero's burn engine alone is worth the extra.

If I am burning from WAV files, for example WAV files extracted with EAC, I use burnatonce. To create a CD from MP3 files, I use foobar2000. The three mentioned programs (EAC, burnatonce and foobar200) are all free. And all are excellent. B)
foobars's CD Writer component (foo_burninate) depends on Nero being installed. From all Windows general-purpose burning programs I prefer Nero by far over any other software, since its feature set seems just right for me.
Additionally I use Feurio/EAC for Audio CDs, CloneCD for copying Data CDs and CDRWin for its excellent CUE support.

I prefer Nero 6 because it requires less system resources and is less "invasive" than Easy CD Creator..

Nero is an excellent burning program, and you typically don't have to pay an exhorbitant amount of money for it either:
Many, many, many burners ship with a full OEM copy of Nero - you can easily find models under $50 that do so. You might get stuck with a slightly outdated version if you aren't careful, I suppose.

What does this mean? And when you have 768 RAM and a 1.8 P4 does it matter? I'm just asking. Lot's of "Nero is better" responses but still not clear why.

between only Nero and Easy Cd Cremator I prefer Nero.
However, I use burnatonce too because:
- The GUI is great
- It's under 4 MB
- It's free
- It does replaygain
- It suports up to 105 characters in a filename with Long Joliet
- It's got great support (in the forum).
- On my OLD pc it didn't have as many buffer underuns as Nero did (But Feurio was better in that aspect because it could do audio on the fly)
- It can write a Checksum file to the CD automatically
- It can write cds with the ISO 9660:1999 standard (up to 209 characters in a filename)
I'd recomend trying it before spending US$100 on Nero, because it might as well do everything you need, for free.

an example of Roxio Easy CD Creator's invasiveness is that it causes compatibility problems when using daemon tools (http://www.daemon-tools.cc/). Nero does not cause these problems.

Yes, I know it quite well. But in this age of mirror sites and rampant viruses....it never hurts to have a direct link to the site.
The request was NOT out of laziness. And, I did end up using google to find the site.
