hi! erm, i am using lame 3.90.1 (i assume this is the best one to use as everyone has sed) and I have a bit of a problem. Im just wondering is 192kb/s better for ripping cd's than -aps because it should be rite? but for some reason, it just doesnt sound as good, or is it just me being paranoid? I could ABX yeh, but id like some other info if anyone has it?
Thanx, J

Alright, heres the scoop. First, your using the wrong encoder version. You should be using v3.90.3, available here as stated in the FAQ- http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....t=ST&f=15&t=478 . Secodly, the question of APS vs 192kbps has been answered many times before. You can find the answer you are looking for here - http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....t=ST&f=15&t=203 , also in the FAQ. In short, APS is better, use LAME v3.90.3, and look at the FAQ. Have fun.

PS - Don't assume things, because it makes an ASS out of U and ME.

The short answer is: Yes, aps is better. Use lame 3.90.x (preferred), or at most, 3.92, nothing else. Of course if you can use a computer, MPC --standard --xlevel is the best of lossy encoders (170kbps avg, fast, excellent quality).
