Hi all,

Being new to this board (this is my first post) I would like to let you know I updated and replaced my old "stereo to surround with Ambisonics" guide on Doom9.
Instead of the hard way with Cool Edit and the Aurora plugins, we developed a complete new method. For now it works in real time, so you can listen to every change you make in the process. In November an offline version will be introduced that speed things up.

The thread (published here before.....thanks !) is the same, the guide is new :-)

I really would like to hear your comments.........

hmm... posting is weird..
that's like one third of my post above..
wtf.

it's not a complete diss, but I'd just like to point out that using "ambisonics" for something like this feels a tad miscrediting. I'll rewrite the morepart of the former message when I get home.

Yes, how can you get ambisonics from plain stereo channels? You'd need some kind of directional information...

Anyway, I haven't tried the conversion yet. While not having anything to do with ambisonics, it might still be interesting?

Just read the guide first :-)
All tools used (except Bidule) are official tools from the inventors and writers of Ambisonic tools.

Please judge after reading and trying, don't jump to conclusions too soon !

Okay ?

Thanks for your work.

Since Stereo -> Ambisonic can now be done in real time, how long before we see a Directshow filter, Foobar DSP or Winamp DSP? ;-) That would be fantastic!

don't forget that it's merely 1-dimensional "ambisonics" that you can get out of a stereofile (MS). You can get three "useful" channels like this. L, R & C & LFE (3.1).

What you get is a line of stereo, in which you can expand the amount of speakers.
You could zoom out the stereoimage as a bent line around the listener, but that's about it - since it's 1-dim "ambisonics".

So, it's one way to get sound from all your speakers in a surround system, but just don't expect it to be anything like ambisonics surround because it's nothing like it at all just an approach to get multiple monochannels from a stereosource.
