Just a quick question: Is EasyLame recommended? I usually replace the lame.exe that comes with EasyLame with the version from 3.90.3 modified, is this wrong or pointless? If it makes any difference to my questions, quality is my priority, so my choice of switch is --alt preset extreme, and of course I'm letting EAC v0.95 pre-beta 3 make the wavs.

Hi there,
i think in mp3 coding everything is gonna right with you and you get hq mp3s in that way. but if you really want highquality in lossy format i suggest to try out mpc (musepack) or the sucessor of mp3 -> aac
all you need for encoding your eac waves to mpc or aac you can get at famous rarewares page. rarewares page is hosted by hydrogenaudio. you can get the direct link at portal.
the best lossy format i've ever heard is aac encoded with the best codec around psytel 2.15. you can inbound the psytel exe into eac in an easy way. recommend settings (presets) are -extreme (up to 230 kbps) -archive (<> 270 kbps) or for the best quality -ultra (290-320 kbps).
try it and compare your mp3s with psytel encoded in - archive or - ultra.
i swear a new world of sound appears to your ears and you never will encoding in mp3 anymore as i did experienced months ago.
i'm still on the way to replace my hq mp3s with hq aac. i've killed tons of complete mp3 albums the last months and replaced with aac albums.

aac is also the new audiostandard included in mpeg 4 a/v standard. it's also easy to put your aac files into mp4 container by usin mp4 creator. and mp4 will be hardware supported in the future as nowadays mp3.

so with best regards and have phun with aac.

for further infos about aac there is still the aac topic here at hydrogen.

Just a quick question: Is EasyLame recommended?

Since EasyLame/RazorLame is just a frontend, there isn't really one recommended frontend in this quality-oriented forum.

That is however heavily recommended in this forum!

Why don't you let EAC encode to MP3 as well? And, I couldn't help noticing that you compared to Xing earlier... Are you sure extreme isn't a bit overkill for you? Standard is the usual choice in this forum... You could save some space?

I think my reason for not doing this was because I read in a guide somewhere that it's better to do the process in different stages in case of errors.
