I've ripped my CD collection to mp3's using EAC & APS and I've listened to those mp3's with Winamp, Foobar, Media Jukebox, Coolplayer and WMP9. The sound quality seems excellent to me and I can't hear any difference between these players. Has anybody tested the playback sound quality of these players? Am I correct in thinking the sound quality produced by these players is equally as good?

Does anybody know which mp3 decoder WMP9 uses?

seems you have answered your own question... as far as perceptionally.

althought i still use mpc --quality 7 and foobar.

its a matter of priciple i suppose... whether theorhetical sound quality is important to you over perceptional sound quality.

foobar probably uses less resources tho (wmp is probably bloated).

I've been looking for a player who's U/I I was comfortable with and keep coming back to WMP9. Most of the references to WMP9 I read on these forums are particularly scathing, but the criticism seems directed at the wma format rather than the player.

My ears are old so I was wondering if my perception regarding sound quality was faulty.

i dont know with wmp9
but wmp8 really destroy heavy bass pumping techno if you turn up the local volume of wmp. its feels like "clipping"

That also why i have volume control disablet in winamp. and why i hate people turnign down/up the volume the wrong way. (it shoudl alawys be turn up in the last stage and by analog (the speakers/amplifier)
