Full Version: Ripping a song that starts before song 1

Hello,

A friend of mine got a CD that has a track '0' or something. It is sort of a bonus track...after putting the CD in it starts playing as every ordinary CD. However, somehow, you can rewind song1 and you'll find another track that plays even before track1. Therefore, the question is how to rip that particular song '0' - the song before track1... unsure.gif

I've never seen such a CD, but the track you mention must be the gap of track 1 (between indexes 00 and 01, the so-called 'pregap' or just 'gap'). This 'gap' is not played, unless you rewind to time zero and below, just as you describe.

(you can also check this by detecting gaps with EAC and see how long the first gap is - 2 seconds is an ordinary pause. In your case it will be longer, maybe minutes)

Oh... and how to extract the audio? Suppose you use EAC, then there are several options. If you would like the track 'separate', then choose 'copy track 1 index-based' (which will give you track 1's gap (which is the desired song) and track 1 itself). An alternative is creating an image of the entire CD... there is also the possibility to get the two first tracks merged (but i guess that's not what you want)

Hope this helps. smile.gif

Jojo, in Exact Audio Copy you need to do the following:

1) With the disc loaded, go to "Action" > "Copy Range" > "Uncompressed..." (or simply press "F7").

2) In the "Select Start Position" dialog, set it to Block: 0 (regardless of whether or not track 1 has a pre-gap, the disc itself always starts at block 0).

3) In the "Select End Position" dialog, drag the slider to the first visible notch (which should be the beginning of the first proper track on the album).

This will copy the hidden song as a separate track, with nothing else attached to it.
