I was just starting to rip all my CDs again using vbr 128-320 and came across the All Music Guide in conjunction with the Godfather to update IDv23 tags. Previously I would just use artist, album, track, genre, and year. However, I see using the Godfather method I can include cover art and a description in the comment field. What is the benefit to this? That info never comes up in foobar or hardware MP3 players does it? Does such a large amount of information damage the integrity of the file in anyway?

Generally adding all these informations does not damage the integrity of the file, except for example if you modify too much times the ID3v2 Tag
Informations like Cover Art are not supported by all the Software Players and not supported at all by the Hardware Players.
The benefit is when you use a Player like Winamp with installed the Plugin EAR and you can see all these informations
