Full Version: Does Feurio! dislike good quality CD-Rs?

Hmmm, I'm a bit confused here. Trying to burn an audio CD with Feurio! (1.66) constantly results in coasters when I use premium quality CD-Rs (I tried both Sony (is Sony) and Verbatim (is Taiyo Yuden)). As soon as I start using cheap stuff (Princo, Ritek), everything goes fine.

I also tried EAC; there it's completely opposite: Sony CD-Rs do well, where as the el Cheapoes come out beer mats. What's going on here? Both programmes are configured to use the same ASPI layer (wnaspi32.dll). I tried burning at different speeds but that doesn't make the slightest difference.

Is there anybody out there who can shed some light in this rather strange matter? The thing is, I want to use good quality CDs (I've had to toss several Princoes and Riteks already) but I'd rather use Feurio! than EAC to burn my CDs (because I think Feurio! is a lot easier to work with when it comes to burning CDs).

Feedback much appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know why, but it seems that the burning quality might depend on the used drivers.
And your burner is supported via the generic driver.
I guess that EAC also uses a generic driver, but maybe the commands are different. I don't know if that's the difference... I hope someone can give some more info.
If you are registered, you might want to contact Feurio support. Maybe you can help to support that drive.

I can offer no explanation, just a side note that I have seen similar odd behaviour with a few Toshiba CD Writers in general. Tayo Yurdens / Mitsui's were written with so many errors that cd's are almost undreadable, and Princo / Plasmon / OtherSuchCrud were fine (well, as you'd expect).

I personally rate Ritek a lot, and here it scores a positive on all three category's. Yes, its high quality, yes, its cheap, and yes, it works well with the aformentioned Toshiba drives.

(and, yes, I like comma's) wink.gif

Hmm, realised I sounded a bit harsh to Toshiba drives. In any case, these were all drives in Laptops (think there were 3 different drive models) -- and these laptops were only one step away from 'Back of a Lorry'.

Very confusing stuff, though!

I don't think that anyone has got an answer here. Try CDFreaks ("optical storage technical discussion"), CDRLabs or CDRinfo.
