The Windows Media Player is different from the Media Player Control that comes with Visual Basid (msdxm.ocx). Is there an updated version of this ocx or a way to make it play lossless audio files such as APE or WMA(lossless)?

The msdxm.ocx control can play the same formats as WMP9, provided you have the proper DirectShow filters installed. WMA v9 Lossless shouldn't be a problem if it already works with WMP9.
