I need some test files and I noticed this "problem" using foobar.

This is a "standard" .pls playlist file:


And this is a .m3u or .pls generated by foobar2000 0.7.1 (both are the same):


Why? Is there any reason? Or is this a "bug"?
Edit: The # in the .m3u files are comments, so the .m3u generated by foobar is right.

I beleive they're both winamp's own standards..... They added their own stuff and called it Extended M3U and Extended Pls and is documented at http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=65772

So there's nothing wrong with foobar's output.... It just doesnt support Winamps own versions of m3u and pls.

I think .pls is the default Sonique's playlist format, and it's supported by a lot of players. But a "foobar.pls" can't be opened with other player, so...

What does that tell you about the other players then?

A search on google revlealed some program called MuseARC first used .pls, see if that will play them..

Its not foobar's fault that winamp basically took the .pls format, totally transformed it, abandoned support for old .pls, and then other programs copied them...

Maybe that's a tottally inaccurate description of what actually happened, but you get the point, standards are there for a reason, you can always use .m3u if you need non-compliant players to play your playlists.

Not to mention foobar will play Winamp's .m3u and .pls playlists fine..

Next foobar won't write pls files, they were indeed severely broken.

Ehem... wait a moment, musicmusic. We're not speaking about faults, please read my first post and notice all the words with "" and ? again.
But:

1) ...so Winamp stablished a new "standard".

2) ...and foobar supports that new "standard" too.
Then, it's like play two games with different rules at the same time. If we save a .m3u and a .pls with foobar and we have the same result, this is the logic solution:

Well i have no idea what .pls was like before winamp made their "PLSv2" anyway, which is sort of what i meant about "MuseARC" (whatever that is). Maybe it was an "offical" standard, i dont know, ill shut up now

I suppose common sense would mean original .pls was probably like plsv2 minus the artist & title bits, rather than what that winamp forum crap i quoted said

The specs on that Winamp Thread on Generic PLS is wrong. I don't know exactly how the older .PLS (PLSv1) worked. I was under the impression it was just a file list like the generic .M3U files. Turns out I was wrong. Though I removed Generic PLS fr4om that thread.

By the way that thread is nothing official, it was something I wrote because it came up a lot and I couldn't find any official specifications for either format anywhere.
