Well, whaddya know, there actually ARE limitations to what foobar can do... or are there?

A while back, while personalizing my WinXP, I d/l'd a bunch of .wav files from various sites, things like Simpsons audio clips etc. And fobar (v. 0.666 then, I think) wouldn't play them! I resorted back to Winamp, which could cope.

To h3ll with .wav files, you'll say. Perhaps. But today I encountered the first .mp3 file that wouldn't play with Foobar. Have a look-see: The stupid mp3 that Winamp will play but Foobar won't

Any ideas as to what I should do? MP's I should write to? Government agencies I should blame?

Works for me.

aaaahhh stupid me? I needed the reply "works for me" to start thinking... I checked the mp3, saw that it is 1-channel, added "Convert mono to stereo" to the DSPs (which I did not have as I had thought it unnecessary) and... presto! works for me as well!

Thanks for helping me switch on the thinking module, gonna test those wavs now.

[ten minutes later] Yuppeekayay! a random check of a dozen or so reveals everything is hunky-dory smile.gif

Works here as well.

Here is the info I got from it. Can't guarantee that it is accurate.

Glad you got it working, but I don't have 'convert mono to stereo' activated in my DSP for it to play.

KS output? Probably buggy drivers.

Nope, DS 2, earlier normal DS. OEM Audigy (not Compaq), latest official drivers (one version of KX project kept freezing my computer so I dumped it and haven't used these since).

But I DO have a 4.1 speaker setup and use "convert stereo to 4 channels" (can't remember whether it was on when I had that problem with wav's though). And - repeat - after switching on "convert mono to stereo" (placed it above stereo=>4, obviously) everything plays fine.

Over and out =]
