lamedropXPd is now available at: http://www.inf.ufpr.br/~rja00/ .

This is in both lame 3.91 and 3.92a flavours. Encoding is exactly as before, I have just added the basic mp3 decoding that lame.exe offers. In other words, simple decode to 16 bit wave file. There is no switch to select decoding, just 'drop' an mp3 file and it will be decoded to '.wav' with the same filename. Finish encoding before adding files for decoding, and vice-versa, or they will be ignored.

I'd like to announce too that I added the MPEG4ip player (kindly compiled by Everwicked) to the Others page.

It seems it's the only player that plays every kind of mp4 content out there: Philip's, Psytel's, Envivio's, DivX's...

Give it a try.

Roberto, is this a new compile of the MPEG4IP player? The old version from the PsyTEL site was unable to play some things... I'll cut-and-paste from a message I posted to the AudioCoding.com forum a couple of weeks ago:

Unfortunately I'm not where I can test it at the moment; I won't be back to MY computer until Friday evening, and that's the only place I have MP4s stored. But if this issue has now been fixed, it is very good news indeed!

It is a new version, compiled by Everwicked. My version is 0.9.3.8, Ivan's is probably 0.9.2.X. Besides, this version comes with an ugly GUI.

But I really don't know if it fixes the framerate playback bug. I'll keep waiting for your report.

Okay, I grabbed a copy of the player and put it on a ZIP disk. As soon as I get in on Friday evening I'll check it against the troublesome MP4s, and let you know how everything goes by Saturday morning.

So far, in terms of dithering & smoothness of playback I've still been happiest with the DivX Player 2.0 alpha, but that one unfortunately does not (yet) handle AAC audio. Ah well... for a fully licensed solution, I suppose they'll have to get a full license to include it.

Quick bug report....

LameDropXPd (both version) don't keep their encoding option's checkboxed ticked after you have exited the program. This occurs on the "Private".... checkboxes within the encoding option dialog box. But the program still functions with them enabled, so I guess this is a cosmetic bug .

I'm finding that frequency cut-off and stereo form settings don't stick. I tried MTRH cuz I'm a tweaker and experimenter and it sounds good. I've no idea where it sits on the quality scale. And the dopy q: I no longer see the speed smoothly changing in WinAmp (hops from 128 to 160) -- is that cuz I have a wrong dll? I started fresh at this PC after trying to install Darwin open-source OSX--thought Linux GRUB would work ... :mad:

Version 1.1 just uploaded to Roberto fixes the problem notified by AgentMil (thanks! ).

Also, these versions have been compiled using Dibrom's switches which result in slightly larger mp3 output files. For anyone interested/concerned, the switches are, and these are for the ICL/Intel compiler:

Whether it's either one, or both, that makes the difference, I haven't troubled to establish! But these compiles should produce output very close in size, if not identical, to Dibrom's compile.

lamedropXPd V1.0 replaces lameENCdrop and crashes in my Win XP! just at the end of encoding first wav.

Yes, it still crashes. vbr mp3 file has no Xing header, but alt-preset cbr crashes too. Both versions 3.92a & 3.91.

I've just uploaded two versions 1.11 to Roberto. Small changes that may help, plus some cosmetic changes. If your particular problem still persists, and I can't reproduce it because I don't see it, send me a PM and I'll mail you lameENCdrop versions. It really is quite puzzling because the addition of decoding is quite trivial in coding terms and I can't see what could be causing the problem!:confused:

If anyone else has any problems OSwise, please shout now!

Okay, I should probably start a new thread for this - but I'm short on time this evening and the quickest answer (so I could still make the post without having to give the background for it) was to append it here, since this is where I brought it up. Apologies if anyone following this thread just gets bored with me...

The MPEG4IP mp4player still does not play MP4 content encoded at 23.967 frames per second (as mentioned above). This is not a problem with the DivX encoder; to test, I created a video-only stream at the film frame-rate, and the DivX player 2.0 alpha handles such files fine. The MPEG4IP player does not.

I then created two separate audio-video MP4s: one at 23.967 fps (film - the troublesome rate!), and the other at 29.970 fps (standard). Identical parameters were used for everything except the framerate (which was converted prior to DivX encoding). MPEG4IP played the 29.970 fps file fine, and even the audio sync was right on. When I tried the 23.967 file, here was the result:

I guess that, plainly speaking, MPEG4ip player doesn't support (yet!) 23.967fps. Maybe you should contact them and explain what you are experiencing?

Everwicked had some problems compiling the player, and they were very helpful explaining him how to proceed.

Still crashes

It is probably strange problem that appears only on my computer . I succesfully run lamedropXP on others computers, one of them has IDENTICAL configuration and most of the software (Norton Internet Security, Office etc.) and works fine. I replaced memory but this doesn't helped.
