Hope you can help me with the following problem:
I have several mp3-albums that seem to be very resistent concerning the masstagger. When i try to use the option "guess values from filename" that up to now has worked with several albums i now have the problem that it changes absolutely nothing. The masstagger appears to be working on the files and then drops back to the playlist but nothing has changed. I reloaded the file infos from the database but that did not help. I then manually tried to add the fields in the "file info" and that seems to work just fine. Only the masstagger does not work. ANother thing that is strange is, that I can use an external tagging programm (in this case I tried The Godfather) to change the id3v1 tags but foobar doesn't even recognise the changes I made. Am I doing something wrong ?

Give an example of the guessing string you used and a filename it can't find the title for.

Are you sure Godfather didn't write id3v2 tags? or did you forget to reload info in foobar2000?

If he has Replaygained the files, and so has APEv2 tags, changes in ID3v1 or ID3v2 wont show up on foobar, even if he tries to reload the infos..

well it can't be replaygain because I never have touched that feature. The files that I am having problems with have both id3v1 and v2 tags but that can't really be the problem because I have plenty of other files that work and that also have both tags.
Following example:

the filename has the following format:
Napalm Death -01- Continuing War on Stupidity.mp3

The guessing string looks like this:

%artist -%tracknumber- %title

This leads to no success.

//edit: I just rechecked the tags and it seems I am probably just making a mistake in the guessing string. Any help would be great.

I hope you actually used %artist% -%tracknumber%- %title%

and not %artist -%tracknumber- %title because that wouldn't work ...
hotzenpl0tz
thanks alot musicmusic, that exactly was my mistake smile.gif

that now leaves me with only one problem left: Changes I make with the external "The Godfather" are not recognised. TG does recognise the changes, even if I completely reload the programm it still sees the changes I have made to both the id3v1 and id3v2 tags. But the "file info" in foobar das not show me the changed tags. What could be wrong here ?
musicmusic
my guess would be if reload file info didnt work, foobar is reading apev2 tags rather than id3..

probably a few solutions, depending on what you want exactly.
hotzenpl0tz
well, if I get this correctly there would be 3 simple solutions:

1) convert the id3v1 tags to apev2 tags (not sure if The Godfather is capable of doing that, don't really think so)

2) delete the apev2 tags completely

3) tell foobar to not read the apev2 tags (is this possible ?)

Any suggestions what would be the easiest and fastest ?
